نحنwe الذينَthose who لناto us المَقامُthe station الأيِّدُmighty
نحن الذينَ لنا المَقامُ الأيِّدُ
أَقمارُناour moons فيin بُرْجِهاtheir celestial mansion لاnot تُرْصَدُare observed
أَقمارُنا في بُرْجِها لا تُرْصَدُ
We are those to whom the mighty station belongs.
We who possess the exalted abode
Our moons in their celestial mansion are not observed.
Our moons in their mansions cannot be discerned
رامَsought العدوُّthe enemy قِراعَناcombat with us بنِبالِهِwith his arrows
رامَ العدوُّ قِراعَنا بنِبالِهِ
فانْقضَّso he collapsed وهوwhile he was أَخوa brother to النَّكالِchastisement منَكَّدُwretched
فانْقضَّ وهو أَخو النَّكالِ منَكَّدُ
The enemy sought to fight us with his arrows.
The enemy has sought to pierce our shields
So he collapsed, a wretched brother to chastisement.
Yet he recoiled, a brother to the wretched and debased
همَمٌaspirations يعضِّدُهاstrengthens them النَّبيُّthe Prophet محمَّدٌMuhammad
همَمٌ يعضِّدُها النَّبيُّ محمَّدٌ
وابنُand the son of الرِّفاعِيِّal-Rifa‘i المُؤيَّدِthe aided أَحمدُAhmad
وابنُ الرِّفاعِيِّ المُؤيَّدِ أَحمدُ
Aspirations strengthened by the Prophet Muhammad,
Aspirations buttressed by the Prophet Muhammad
And Ahmad, son of al-Rifa‘i the aided.
And Ibn Al-Rifai, the Supported Ahmad
ولنحنُand indeed we فيamong أَهلِthe people of القُلوبِhearts عِصابَةٌa band
ولنحنُ في أَهلِ القُلوبِ عِصابَةٌ
حُجَجُproofs الفَخارِglory لناfor us تقومُrise وتقْعُدُand sit
حُجَجُ الفَخارِ لنا تقومُ وتقْعُدُ
And indeed we are a band among the people of the heart.
For us among the folk of hearts is a band
The proofs of glory rise and sit for us.
Whose earthen vessels stand and sit
شِيَمُvirtues الأَكابِرِthe great يومَthe day of نَهْزِurging on رِكابِناour mounts
شِيَمُ الأَكابِرِ يومَ نَهْزِ رِكابِنا
فيat بابِناour gate السَّاميlofty تَريضُare tamed وتسجُدُand prostrate themselves
في بابِنا السَّامي تَريضُ وتسجُدُ
The virtues of the great, on the day we urge our mounts,
The mark of magnates on the day we stir our steeds
Are tamed and prostrate themselves at our lofty gate.
In our lofty gate they acquiesce and prostrate
قدْindeed قدَّsevered حبلَthe cord of الغيرِall else سيفُthe sword of قُلوبِناour hearts
قدْ قدَّ حبلَ الغيرِ سيفُ قُلوبِنا
بمكانَةٍby virtue of a station عُلْوِيَّةٍexalted لاnot تُجْحَدُis denied
بمكانَةٍ عُلْوِيَّةٍ لا تُجْحَدُ
Indeed, the sword of our hearts has severed the cord of all else,
The sword of our hearts has provoked the bonds of others
By virtue of an exalted station that is not denied.
With a sublimity that cannot be denied
لمdid not نبغِwe seek إِلاَّexcept اللهَGod جلَّexalted is جلالُهُHis majesty
لم نبغِ إِلاَّ اللهَ جلَّ جلالُهُ
نسعَىwe strive لهfor Him ضمنَamid الشُؤُنِِaffairs ونَحْفَدُand we hasten to serve
نسعَى له ضمنَ الشُؤُنِِ ونَحْفَدُ
We sought none but God—exalted is His majesty.
We have desired none but Allah, Majesty His
We strive for Him amid affairs and hasten to serve.
For Him amidst affairs we strive and dig
عُمْيٌblind عنto الأَكوانِcreated worlds لمdid not نعبَأْwe pay heed بهاto them
عُمْيٌ عن الأَكوانِ لم نعبَأْ بها
ولناand we have بسِرْدابِin the underground vault of التَّجلِّيdivine manifestation مشهَدُa place of witnessing
ولنا بسِرْدابِ التَّجلِّي مشهَدُ
Blind to created worlds, we have paid them no heed.
Blind to the cosmos, we are not bothered by it
And we have a place of witnessing in the vault of divine manifestation.
For us is the vision at the vestibule of Theophany
نحنُwe العِبادُthe servants الخالِصونَwholly devoted لربِّناto our Lord
نحنُ العِبادُ الخالِصونَ لربِّنا
اللهُGod يشهَدُbears witness والبَرِيَّةُand creation تشهَدُbears witness
اللهُ يشهَدُ والبَرِيَّةُ تشهَدُ
We are the servants wholly devoted to our Lord.
We are the sincere servants of our Lord
God bears witness, and creation bears witness.
Allah bears witness, and so does creation
