خالِقِtreat الناسَpeople بخُلقٍwith character حَسَنٍgood
خالِقِ الناسَ بخُلقٍ حَسَنٍ
واسْبِلِand lower الأَستارَthe veils فوقَover المظهَرِthe outward appearance
واسْبِلِ الأَستارَ فوقَ المظهَرِ
Treat people with good character.
Creator of people with good manners,
And lower the veils over the outward appearance.
Drape the curtains over appearance.
وتواضَعْand be humble رأفَةًout of compassion عنfrom عِزَّةٍdignity
وتواضَعْ رأفَةً عن عِزَّةٍ
وانتَهِضْand rise up بالكِبْرِwith pride للمُستكْبِرِtoward the arrogant one
وانتَهِضْ بالكِبْرِ للمُستكْبِرِ
And be humble out of compassion, from a position of dignity.
Be humble out of glory,
And rise up in pride against the arrogant.
And stand tall against the arrogant.
وأَخوand the brother of النَّفسِthe soul أَثِبْهُreward him حقَّهاits due
وأَخو النَّفسِ أَثِبْهُ حقَّها
كيso that تكنْyou may be مُنطبِعاًimprinted فيin الصُّوَرِthe forms
كي تكنْ مُنطبِعاً في الصُّوَرِ
And reward the soul’s brother with the soul’s due,
Make firm the self's brother his right,
So that you may be imprinted in forms.
That it be imprinted in images.
وإذاand when ماever (emphatic) قمتَyou undertook فيin أمْرٍa matter فمنْthen whoever
وإذا ما قمتَ في أمْرٍ فمنْ
تابِعاًfollowing فيin الأَمرِthe matter حُكْمَthe decree of القَدَرِfate
تابِعاً في الأَمرِ حُكْمَ القَدَرِ
And whenever you undertake a matter, then whoever—
And when you stand for a matter,
Following the decree of fate in that matter.
Following the judgment of fate in the matter.
وبالاسْتِدْلالِand through inference نشراًunfolding وطَوًىand folding
وبالاسْتِدْلالِ نشراً وطَوًى
صَحِّحِset right الشَّأْنَthe matter بحكمِby the judgment of النَّظرِreflection
صَحِّحِ الشَّأْنَ بحكمِ النَّظرِ
And through inference, unfolding and folding,
And by inference, unfurling and folding,
Set the matter right by reasoned judgment.
Correct the affair by the judgment of observation.
واقْطَعِand cut off الإِيصالَcontact عنfrom مُنقَطِعٍone who has broken away
واقْطَعِ الإِيصالَ عن مُنقَطِعٍ
واقبَلِand accept الأَعذارَthe excuses للمُعْتَذِرِfor the one apologizing
واقبَلِ الأَعذارَ للمُعْتَذِرِ
And sever contact with one who has broken away.
Cut off connection from the disconnected,
And accept the excuses of one who apologizes.
And accept excuses from the apologizer.
نعمَةُthe blessing of اللهِGod فوَقِّرْso honor طورَهاits measure
نعمَةُ اللهِ فوَقِّرْ طورَها
واحمدِand praise اللهَGod تَعالىexalted is He واشْكُرِand give thanks
واحمدِ اللهَ تَعالى واشْكُرِ
God’s blessing—so honor its measure.
God's blessing - appreciate its nature,
And praise God—exalted is He—and give thanks.
Thank God Most High and be grateful.
