رَوِّحِ القلبَ تارةً بالمُباحِ

رَوِّحِ القلبَ تارةً بالمُباحِ

واجْلُ بالذِّكرِ ظُلمةَ الأتْراحِ

واجْلُ بالذِّكرِ ظُلمةَ الأتْراحِ

Refresh the heart now and then with what is lawful.

Refresh the heart at times with the lawful,

And dispel with remembrance the darkness of sorrows.

And dispel the darkness of grief with remembrance,

لا تُصِرْ غافلاً عن الذِّكرِ يوماً

لا تُصِرْ غافلاً عن الذِّكرِ يوماً

إنَّ في الذِّكرِ راحةَ الأرواحِ

إنَّ في الذِّكرِ راحةَ الأرواحِ

Do not become heedless of remembrance for even a day.

Do not neglect remembrance for a day,

For in remembrance lies the repose of souls.

Indeed, in remembrance is the comfort of souls.

احْفظِ الله واذْكُرَنْهُ دَواماً

احْفظِ الله واذْكُرَنْهُ دَواماً

ذِكرُهُ للرِّجالِ ماضي السَّلاحِ

ذِكرُهُ للرِّجالِ ماضي السَّلاحِ

Be mindful of God, and surely remember Him always.

Remember God and mention Him always,

Remembrance of Him is a keen-edged weapon for men.

His remembrance for men is better than weapons.

تَطمئِنُّ القُلوبُ فيه بنصٍّ

تَطمئِنُّ القُلوبُ فيه بنصٍّ

هكذا الذِّكرُ باعِثُ الإنْشراحِ

هكذا الذِّكرُ باعِثُ الإنْشراحِ

Hearts find peace in it, as an explicit text affirms.

Hearts are reassured in it with clear proof,

Thus remembrance brings gladness.

Thus remembrance inspires expansion.

واعْبُدِ الله ما قَدِرْتَ بِصدقٍ

واعْبُدِ الله ما قَدِرْتَ بِصدقٍ

إنَّ هذا طريقُ أهلِ الصَّلاحِ

إنَّ هذا طريقُ أهلِ الصَّلاحِ

And worship God sincerely, as much as you can.

And worship God as much as you can sincerely,

This is indeed the path of the righteous.

Indeed this is the way of the righteous.

لا تكنْ دائمَ التَّشادُدِ للدِّي

لا تكنْ دائمَ التَّشادُدِ للدِّي

نِ وكُنْ رَيِّضاً بَسيطَ الجَناح

نِ وكُنْ رَيِّضاً بَسيطَ الجَناح

Do not be forever overstrict in

Do not always be harsh in religion,

Religion; and be gentle, with your wing outspread.

And be gentle, simple in manner.

هذه سُنَّةُ النَّبيِّ المُفدَّى

هذه سُنَّةُ النَّبيِّ المُفدَّى

مَسلكُ العارفينَ أهلِ الفلاحِ

مَسلكُ العارفينَ أهلِ الفلاحِ

This is the practice of the Prophet, for whom we would give our lives,

This is the way of the Chosen Prophet,

The path of those who know God, the people of felicity.

The path of the gnostics, the successful.

وتَمذْهَبْ بِمذهبِ القومِ أهلِ الل

وتَمذْهَبْ بِمذهبِ القومِ أهلِ الل

ه أهلِ النَّوالِ والأرباحِ

ه أهلِ النَّوالِ والأرباحِ

And adopt the way of the folk, the people of

And follow the way of the people of God,

God, the people of bounty and gains.

The people of bounty and profits.

جَرَّبَ العاقلونَ شرْقاً وغرْباً

جَرَّبَ العاقلونَ شرْقاً وغرْباً

أنَّ مِنْهاجهُمْ سبيلُ النَّجاحِ

أنَّ مِنْهاجهُمْ سبيلُ النَّجاحِ

The wise have learned by trial, in East and West,

The wise have tried east and west,

That their way is the path to success.

And found their path leads to success.

طهِّرِ القلبَ من غُبارِ البَرايا

طهِّرِ القلبَ من غُبارِ البَرايا

واطلُبِ الفَتْح من يدِ الفتَّاحِ

واطلُبِ الفَتْح من يدِ الفتَّاحِ

Purify the heart of the dust of created beings,

Purify the heart from the dust of vanities,

And seek an opening from the hand of the Opener.

And seek opening at the hand of the Opener.

وخذِ المُصْطَفى إماماً كريماً

وخذِ المُصْطَفى إماماً كريماً

جاءَ للهَدْيِ بالطَّريقِ الوَضاحِ

جاءَ للهَدْيِ بالطَّريقِ الوَضاحِ

And take al-Mustafa as a noble guide;

And take the Noble Mustafa as a noble imam,

He came to guide along the radiant path.

He came with guidance on the clear path.

عَمَّنا بالهُدى فَرُحنا بنورٍ

عَمَّنا بالهُدى فَرُحنا بنورٍ

أبديٍّ على الصِّراطِ الصَّراحِ

أبديٍّ على الصِّراطِ الصَّراحِ

He encompassed us with guidance, so we went forth with a light

He gave us guidance so we rejoiced in eternal light,

Eternal, upon the clear path.

On the straight path.

قَدْ حَسوْنا راحَ المَحبَّةِ فيه

قَدْ حَسوْنا راحَ المَحبَّةِ فيه

خَلِّ للجاحِدينَ شُرْب الرَّاحِ

خَلِّ للجاحِدينَ شُرْب الرَّاحِ

In him we have indeed sipped the wine of love;

We have tasted the comfort of love in him,

Leave the drinking of wine to the deniers.

Leave those who deny to taste anguish.

جاءَ والكونُ في ظلامٍ بهيمٍ

جاءَ والكونُ في ظلامٍ بهيمٍ

فَبدا نورُهُ بكلِّ النَّواحي

فَبدا نورُهُ بكلِّ النَّواحي

He came while the universe lay in pitch-black darkness,

He came while the universe was in ignorant darkness,

So his light shone forth in every quarter.

So his light shone in all directions.

الحبيبُ العظيمُ معنى التَّدلِّي

الحبيبُ العظيمُ معنى التَّدلِّي

والتَّجلِّي وكَنزُ كلِّ سَماحِ

والتَّجلِّي وكَنزُ كلِّ سَماحِ

The great Beloved is the meaning of drawing near

The beloved great one, the essence of intimacy,

And manifestation, and the treasure of all generosity.

And manifestation, and treasure of all generosity.

هو روحي وروحُ معنى فُتوحي

هو روحي وروحُ معنى فُتوحي

واخْتِتامي وفي الشُؤُنِ افْتِتاحي

واخْتِتامي وفي الشُؤُنِ افْتِتاحي

He is my soul, and the soul of what my spiritual openings mean,

He is my spirit, the spirit of my essence and openings,

And my ending, and in affairs my beginning.

And my end and beginning in all affairs.

أصلحِ القلبَ في هواهُ وُلوهاً

أصلحِ القلبَ في هواهُ وُلوهاً

إنَّ هذا عَلامةُ الإصلاحِ

إنَّ هذا عَلامةُ الإصلاحِ

Set the heart right, enraptured in love for him;

Reform the heart in his love and make it solely devoted,

For this is the sign of reform.

Indeed this is the sign of reform.

احْكمِ الأمرَ بالفُروضِ وبالسُّ

احْكمِ الأمرَ بالفُروضِ وبالسُّ

نَّةِ واعْمَل بِحكمِها يا صاحِ

نَّةِ واعْمَل بِحكمِها يا صاحِ

Put your affairs in order through the obligatory duties and the

Judge the matter by obligatory acts and tradition,

Sunnah, and act according to its rule, my friend.

And act according to their wisdom, O rational one.

إنَّ هذا الزَّمانَ جُزْءٌ من اللَّيْ

إنَّ هذا الزَّمانَ جُزْءٌ من اللَّيْ

لِ لَعَمري والموتُ قُرْبَ الصَّباحِ

لِ لَعَمري والموتُ قُرْبَ الصَّباحِ

Indeed, this span of time is part of the

Indeed this time is part of the night, by my life,

Night, by my life; and death comes near dawn.

And death is nearing dawn.

بعدَ كشفِ الغطاءِ قَدْ يَبرُزُ الأمْ

بعدَ كشفِ الغطاءِ قَدْ يَبرُزُ الأمْ

رُ وتَبْدو كَوامِنُ الألواحِ

رُ وتَبْدو كَوامِنُ الألواحِ

After the veil is lifted, there may emerge the

After unveiling, matters may emerge,

Matter, and the hidden contents of the tablets appear.

And hidden secrets apparent.

والَّذي قدَّمَ الجميلَ بخيرٍ

والَّذي قدَّمَ الجميلَ بخيرٍ

والَّذي ساءَ باءَ بالإفْتِضاحِ

والَّذي ساءَ باءَ بالإفْتِضاحِ

And whoever has sent good deeds ahead fares well,

And whoever offered good with kindness,

And whoever has done evil returns in disgrace.

And whoever did evil met disgrace.

فاتْبع القومَ إنَّهُمْ أهلُ عقْلٍ

فاتْبع القومَ إنَّهُمْ أهلُ عقْلٍ

أعْمَروا القبرَ بالتُّقى والصَّلاحِ

أعْمَروا القبرَ بالتُّقى والصَّلاحِ

So follow the folk: they are people of understanding.

So follow the people, they are indeed rational,

They made the grave flourish with piety and righteousness.

They built their graves with piety and righteousness.

أحْكموا أمرَهُمْ وراحوا بأمْنٍ

أحْكموا أمرَهُمْ وراحوا بأمْنٍ

يا لإحْكامهم وذاكَ الرَّواحِ

يا لإحْكامهم وذاكَ الرَّواحِ

They put their affairs in order and departed in safety.

They organized their affair and rested in safety,

How splendid their careful ordering, and that departure!

Oh, their excellent organization and comfort!

خُذْ نِظامي نَصيحةً ذاتَ قدرٍ

خُذْ نِظامي نَصيحةً ذاتَ قدرٍ

بِفلاذٍ من العُقودِ الصِّحاحِ

بِفلاذٍ من العُقودِ الصِّحاحِ

Take my verse as counsel of worth,

Take my system sincerely as precious advice,

With fragments drawn from flawless necklaces.

With sentences from authentic collections.

هي متنٌ رقيقُ نَسْجٍ ونظمٍ

هي متنٌ رقيقُ نَسْجٍ ونظمٍ

لم يَحِجْكَ الزَّمانُ للشُّرَّاحِ

لم يَحِجْكَ الزَّمانُ للشُّرَّاحِ

It is a text of delicate weave and composition;

It is a delicate prose and composition,

Time has not made you need commentators.

Time has not made you need explanations.
