حُبُّكُمْlove for you عَلَّمَtaught الأنينَmoaning فُؤاديmy heart
حُبُّكُمْ عَلَّمَ الأنينَ فُؤادي
وأثارَand stirred الأشواقَlongings فيin مَغْناهُits abode
وأثارَ الأشواقَ في مَغْناهُ
Love for you taught my heart to moan,
Your love has taught my heart to pine,
And stirred longings in its abode.
And kindled longing's fire within my song,
وأضاءَتْand shone أجْزاؤُهُits parts بِسناكُمْwith your radiance
وأضاءَتْ أجْزاؤُهُ بِسناكُمْ
فاسْتَضاءَتْso it was illuminated أرضُland الحِمىthe sanctuary بِسَناهُby its radiance
فاسْتَضاءَتْ أرضُ الحِمى بِسَناهُ
And its parts shone with your radiance,
Your radiance has illuminated every part,
So the sanctuary's land was lit by its radiance.
And so the arid wastes are brightened by its glow.
بَعْدَafter مَوْتٍdeath أحْيَيْتُموهُyou revived it بِقُرْبٍthrough nearness
بَعْدَ مَوْتٍ أحْيَيْتُموهُ بِقُرْبٍ
ولقدand indeed كانَhad بُعْدُكُمْseparation from you أفْناهُdestroyed it
ولقد كانَ بُعْدُكُمْ أفْناهُ
After death, you revived it through nearness,
To life you summoned me from death, when you were near,
And indeed, separation from you had destroyed it.
Though when you left, to death you summoned me anew,
طارَit flew بعدَafter الحَياةِlife وَجْداًin yearning إليكمْto you
طارَ بعدَ الحَياةِ وَجْداً إليكمْ
حينَماwhen طابَbecame sweet باللِّقاthrough meeting مَحْياهُits life
حينَما طابَ باللِّقا مَحْياهُ
After returning to life, it flew to you in yearning,
My spirit rose in joyful flight to you,
When meeting made its life sweet—
When sweet reunion banished all its fear.
قَلْبُheart عَبدٍa servant عَفاfaded away وعادَand returned سَليماًwhole
قَلْبُ عَبدٍ عَفا وعادَ سَليماً
إنَّماonly العَبدُthe servant ذُخْرُهُhis treasure مَوْلاهُhis master
إنَّما العَبدُ ذُخْرُهُ مَوْلاهُ
A servant's heart that had faded away and became whole again.
A willing slave finds pardon and returns unharmed,
The servant's sole treasure is his master.
For only in his master rests a slave's true worth.
