أَرَأَيتَhave you seen سوقَthe market الحُبِّof love كيفَhow يُقامُis held
أَرَأَيتَ سوقَ الحُبِّ كيفَ يُقامُ
القَوْمُthe people ذُهْلٌdazed والرِّجالُand the men قِيامُstanding
القَوْمُ ذُهْلٌ والرِّجالُ قِيامُ
Have you seen how the market of love is held?
Have you seen the market of love, how it is set up?
The people are dazed, and the men stand.
The people are confused and the men stand.
يتَزاحَمونَthey crowd إلىtoward العُلىthe heights بقُلوبِهِمْwith their hearts
يتَزاحَمونَ إلى العُلى بقُلوبِهِمْ
هامواthey were enraptured وفيand in ذاكَthat المَقامِstation تَرامُواthey flung themselves
هاموا وفي ذاكَ المَقامِ تَرامُوا
They press toward the heights with their hearts.
They push against each other with their hearts,
They were enraptured and flung themselves into that station.
Passionate, and in that place they fell in love.
أَخَذواthey received أَساليبَthe ways القُلُوبِof hearts إِفاضَةًthrough an outpouring
أَخَذوا أَساليبَ القُلُوبِ إِفاضَةً
ومنand from الغُيوبِthe unseen realms إلىto القُلُوبِthe hearts نِظامُorder
ومن الغُيوبِ إلى القُلُوبِ نِظامُ
They received the ways of hearts through an outpouring.
They took the ways of the hearts overflowing,
And from the unseen realms to hearts comes order.
And from the hearts to the hearts there is order.
وتَعَلَّمواand they learned العِلمَthe knowledge الخفِيَّhidden بسِرِّهِمْthrough their innermost being
وتَعَلَّموا العِلمَ الخفِيَّ بسِرِّهِمْ
فهُمُso they بمشْهَدِin the witnessing of ذَوْقِهِits savor أَعْلامُluminaries
فهُمُ بمشْهَدِ ذَوْقِهِ أَعْلامُ
And they learned hidden knowledge through their innermost being.
And they learned the hidden knowledge in their secret,
So they are luminaries in witnessing its savor.
So they are, by the witnessing of its taste, banners.
عَرَفَتْhave known لَياليthe nights الدَّهرِof time زَمَّةَthe rein جيشِهِمْof their army
عَرَفَتْ لَيالي الدَّهرِ زَمَّةَ جيشِهِمْ
طَوْراًat one time وقدand indeed شَهِدتْhave borne witness لهfor it الأَيَّامُthe days
طَوْراً وقد شَهِدتْ له الأَيَّامُ
The nights of time have known their army's rein.
The nights of fate have recognized the alliance of their army,
At one time—and the days have borne witness for it.
At times, and days have witnessed it.
جَيشٌan army أَبوAbu (father of) الزَّهْراءِal-Zahra قامَstood إمامَهُas its imam
جَيشٌ أَبو الزَّهْراءِ قامَ إمامَهُ
فلَنِعْمَso, excellent indeed is جَيْشٌan army بلnay ونِعْمَand excellent is إِمامُan imam
فلَنِعْمَ جَيْشٌ بل ونِعْمَ إِمامُ
An army: Abu al-Zahra stood as its imam.
An army whose leader is Abu Al-Zahra', it stood,
So, what a fine army indeed—nay, and what a fine imam!
So excellent is the army and excellent is the leader.
