قَسَماً بثائِرَةِ الغَرامِ المُذهِلِ

قَسَماً بثائِرَةِ الغَرامِ المُذهِلِ

وبسِرِّ آياتِ الكِتابِ المُنْزَلِ

وبسِرِّ آياتِ الكِتابِ المُنْزَلِ

I swear by the tumult of bewildering passion,

and by the mystery of the verses of the revealed Book,

وبما تكبَّدُهُ القُلُوبُ من الهَوَى

وبما تكبَّدُهُ القُلُوبُ من الهَوَى

فغَدَتْ به رمزَ المحبَّةِ تَجْتَلي

فغَدَتْ به رمزَ المحبَّةِ تَجْتَلي

and by what hearts endure of love,

so through it they came to behold love's emblem;

لكُمُ العُهودُ من الفُؤادِ قَديمةٌ

لكُمُ العُهودُ من الفُؤادِ قَديمةٌ

صحَّ الحَديثُ بها بنقلٍ مُرسَلِ

صحَّ الحَديثُ بها بنقلٍ مُرسَلِ

my heart's pledges to you are ancient;

their report proved sound through an incomplete chain of transmission.

حَسُنَتْ روايَتُها ومن طُرُقٍ أتتْ

حَسُنَتْ روايَتُها ومن طُرُقٍ أتتْ

ما بينَ مُسْنَدِ صيغَةٍ ومُسَلْسَلِ

ما بينَ مُسْنَدِ صيغَةٍ ومُسَلْسَلِ

Their narration is good, and they have come by routes

ranging from chain-supported wording to serially linked reports.

فبِحَقِّكُمْ وبحقِّ آلامي بِكُمْ

فبِحَقِّكُمْ وبحقِّ آلامي بِكُمْ

وتفَجُّعي وتأَوُّهي وتَذَلُّلي

وتفَجُّعي وتأَوُّهي وتَذَلُّلي

So, by your worth, and by the pains I suffer because of you,

and my lamenting, my groaning, and my self-abasement,

وبحُرْمَةِ الوُدِّ الَّذي أكْنَنْتُهُ

وبحُرْمَةِ الوُدِّ الَّذي أكْنَنْتُهُ

لَكُمْ بقلبٍ عنكُمُ لم يُشْغَلِ

لَكُمْ بقلبٍ عنكُمُ لم يُشْغَلِ

and by the sanctity of the affection I have concealed

for you in a heart never distracted from you,

مُنُّوا عليَّ بوصْلَةٍ أَمحو بها

مُنُّوا عليَّ بوصْلَةٍ أَمحو بها

ظُلماً لديَّ من البِعادِ الأوَّلِ

ظُلماً لديَّ من البِعادِ الأوَّلِ

grant me reunion, through which I may erase

the wrong I bear from the first separation.
