سقطَ الفُحولُ عن الأَرائِكْ

سقطَ الفُحولُ عن الأَرائِكْ

لمَّا برزْتَ بكِبْرِيائِكْ

لمَّا برزْتَ بكِبْرِيائِكْ

The mighty fell from their couches

when You appeared in Your grandeur.

وبدتْ أساجيفُ السَّنا

وبدتْ أساجيفُ السَّنا

تجلو جلالَكَ من سَنائِكْ

تجلو جلالَكَ من سَنائِكْ

And the curtains of radiance appeared,

revealing Your majesty through Your splendor.

ذهِلَتْ هناكُ أُولو العُلى

ذهِلَتْ هناكُ أُولو العُلى

وتحيَّرَتْ زُمَرُ الملائِكْ

وتحيَّرَتْ زُمَرُ الملائِكْ

There, those of high station were bewildered,

and the hosts of angels were confounded.

فعلى جمالِكَ منْ جَلا

فعلى جمالِكَ منْ جَلا

لِكَ هَيْبَةٌ بِعَما غِطائِكْ

لِكَ هَيْبَةٌ بِعَما غِطائِكْ

Over Your beauty, from Your majesty,

lies awe in the obscurity of Your veil.

وسَرى بأرضِكَ سرُّها

وسَرى بأرضِكَ سرُّها

والحكمُ جَلْجَلَ في سَمائِكْ

والحكمُ جَلْجَلَ في سَمائِكْ

And its mystery coursed through Your earth,

and judgment thundered in Your heaven.

يا من قهرْتَ الأوَّلي

يا من قهرْتَ الأوَّلي

نَ بنسقِ شأنٍ من قَضائِكْ

نَ بنسقِ شأنٍ من قَضائِكْ

O You who subdued the earlier ones

through an ordered act of Your decree,

وبهم طويْتَ الآخِري

وبهم طويْتَ الآخِري

نَ فكلُّهُمْ بطُوى ابْتِلائِكْ

نَ فكلُّهُمْ بطُوى ابْتِلائِكْ

and through them folded away the later ones—

all are in the Ṭuwā of Your trial.

ورشَشْتَ فوقَ المُرْسَلي

ورشَشْتَ فوقَ المُرْسَلي

نَ الزُّهْرِ رَشًّا من بَهائِكْ

نَ الزُّهْرِ رَشًّا من بَهائِكْ

And You sprinkled upon the messengers,

the radiant ones, a sprinkling of Your splendor,

وبعَثْتَهُمْ للعالَمي

وبعَثْتَهُمْ للعالَمي

نَ فأيَّدوا معنى وَلائِكْ

نَ فأيَّدوا معنى وَلائِكْ

and sent them to the worlds,

so they upheld the meaning of allegiance to You.

وجرَى هُداهُمْ منكَ في

وجرَى هُداهُمْ منكَ في

أهلِ العِنايَةِ أوْلِيائِكْ

أهلِ العِنايَةِ أوْلِيائِكْ

And their guidance flowed from You among

the people of providence, Your saints,

أَحبابِكَ الغُرِّ الكِرا

أَحبابِكَ الغُرِّ الكِرا

مُ أُولي المَعارِجِ أَصْفِيائِكْ

مُ أُولي المَعارِجِ أَصْفِيائِكْ

Your beloved, the radiant, the noble,

possessors of ascents, Your chosen ones.

كشَفوا ظلامَ الفانِيا

كشَفوا ظلامَ الفانِيا

تِ بما تلأْلأَ من ضِيائِكْ

تِ بما تلأْلأَ من ضِيائِكْ

They dispelled the darkness of transient things

with what sparkled from Your light.

تبًّا وسُحْقاً للَّذي

تبًّا وسُحْقاً للَّذي

نَ لوَوْا عِناناً عن أولَئِكْ

نَ لوَوْا عِناناً عن أولَئِكْ

Ruin and banishment upon those

who turned their reins away from them!

جهِلوا جَلالَكَ وهو لا

جهِلوا جَلالَكَ وهو لا

يخفَى وصَمُّوا عن نِدائِكْ

يخفَى وصَمُّوا عن نِدائِكْ

They knew not Your majesty, though it is not

hidden, and turned deaf to Your call.

قَرَعَتْهُمُ الآياتُ بال

قَرَعَتْهُمُ الآياتُ بال

صَّدَماتِ من فَعَّالِ دائِكْ

صَّدَماتِ من فَعَّالِ دائِكْ

The signs struck them with

blows from the potent working of Your affliction.

قُدِّسْتَ ما للدَّاءِ إِ

قُدِّسْتَ ما للدَّاءِ إِ

لاَّ ما تنزَّلَ من دَوائِكْ

لاَّ ما تنزَّلَ من دَوائِكْ

Holy are You! Sickness has no cure

save what has descended from Your remedy.

حارَتْ عُقولُ أُلي النُّهى

حارَتْ عُقولُ أُلي النُّهى

بنِماطِ نُقطةِ رمزِ بائِكْ

بنِماطِ نُقطةِ رمزِ بائِكْ

The minds of those endowed with reason were bewildered

by the patterns of the dot in the symbol of Your bāʾ.

نوعُ انْجِلائِكَ بالتَّجَ

نوعُ انْجِلائِكَ بالتَّجَ

لِّي والتَّجلِّي بانْجِلائِكْ

لِّي والتَّجلِّي بانْجِلائِكْ

The manner of Your unveiling through self-manifestation,

and self-manifestation through Your unveiling,

أبدى رَقائِقَ ما نَسَج

أبدى رَقائِقَ ما نَسَج

تَ لكلِّ فانٍ من بَقائِكْ

تَ لكلِّ فانٍ من بَقائِكْ

revealed the subtleties of what You wove

for every transient being from Your everlastingness.

بالافْتِقارِ تشوَّفَتْ

بالافْتِقارِ تشوَّفَتْ

مُقَلُ المُجودِ الى عطائِكْ

مُقَلُ المُجودِ الى عطائِكْ

In need, there gazed longingly

the eyes of the perfected one toward Your bounty.

وجميعُ ذرَّاتِ البَوا

وجميعُ ذرَّاتِ البَوا

رِزِ وهي تسبحُ في فَضائِكْ

رِزِ وهي تسبحُ في فَضائِكْ

And all the particles of manifest things,

as they swim in Your expanse,

ذلَّتْ لعِزِّكَ بالخُضو

ذلَّتْ لعِزِّكَ بالخُضو

عِ وبالخُشوعِ الى عَلائِكْ

عِ وبالخُشوعِ الى عَلائِكْ

humbled themselves before Your might in submission

and in reverence toward Your exaltedness.

فبجَبْرَؤُوتِكَ من ظُهو

فبجَبْرَؤُوتِكَ من ظُهو

رِكَ سرُّ طَوْلٍ في خَفائِكْ

رِكَ سرُّ طَوْلٍ في خَفائِكْ

Thus, by Your omnipotence, from Your manifestation

comes a secret of bounty within Your concealment.

نُزِّهْتَ عن نسبِ ابْتِدا

نُزِّهْتَ عن نسبِ ابْتِدا

ئِكْ في شُؤُنِكَ وانْتِهائِكْ

ئِكْ في شُؤُنِكَ وانْتِهائِكْ

You are exalted beyond any ascription of a beginning

to You in Your affairs, or of an end.

لن يقشَعَ الظُّلُماتِ بال

لن يقشَعَ الظُّلُماتِ بال

تَّوحيدِ غيرُ سَنا جلائِكْ

تَّوحيدِ غيرُ سَنا جلائِكْ

Nothing will dispel the darkness through

affirming oneness, save the radiance of Your unveiling.

إنِّي أتيتُكَ بالدُّعا

إنِّي أتيتُكَ بالدُّعا

ءِ وأينَ قَدْري من دُعائِكْ

ءِ وأينَ قَدْري من دُعائِكْ

I have come to You in supplication,

yet what is my worth beside calling upon You?

مُتوسِّلاً بمحمَّدٍ

مُتوسِّلاً بمحمَّدٍ

سُلطانِ سادةِ أنبيائِكْ

سُلطانِ سادةِ أنبيائِكْ

Seeking intercession through Muhammad,

sovereign of the leaders of Your prophets,

وبآلِهِ وبصحبِهِ

وبآلِهِ وبصحبِهِ

والأَولياءُ أولي حَبائِكْ

والأَولياءُ أولي حَبائِكْ

and through his family and his companions,

and the saints, endowed with Your bounty;

بالذَّاهلينَ الخائفي

بالذَّاهلينَ الخائفي

نَ ذوي التَّملمُلِ في فِنائِكْ

نَ ذوي التَّملمُلِ في فِنائِكْ

through the awestruck, the fearful,

those restless within Your courtyard,

والذَّاهبينَ إليكَ لا

والذَّاهبينَ إليكَ لا

يبغونَ شيئاً من وَرَائِكْ

يبغونَ شيئاً من وَرَائِكْ

and those who go to You, who do not

seek anything beyond You.

كُلِّي مريضٌ فاغْمِسَنْ

كُلِّي مريضٌ فاغْمِسَنْ

أجْزاءَ كلِّي في شِفائِكْ

أجْزاءَ كلِّي في شِفائِكْ

All of me is sick, so immerse

all my parts in Your healing.

واجْعَلْ جَميلَ العفوِ عن

واجْعَلْ جَميلَ العفوِ عن

ذَنْبي جَزائي من جَزائِكْ

ذَنْبي جَزائي من جَزائِكْ

And make gracious forgiveness for

my sin my share of Your recompense.

واسْتُرْ عُيوبي حينَ أج

واسْتُرْ عُيوبي حينَ أج

فَلُ من ثَوايَ الى لِقائِكْ

فَلُ من ثَوايَ الى لِقائِكْ

And conceal my faults when I rush

from my resting place to meet You.

وعليكَ يا طَهَ صَلا

وعليكَ يا طَهَ صَلا

ةُ اللهِ تختَرِقُ الحَبائِكْ

ةُ اللهِ تختَرِقُ الحَبائِكْ

And upon you, O Taha, be

God's blessing, piercing the celestial paths,

وصِحابِكَ الغُرِّ الكِرا

وصِحابِكَ الغُرِّ الكِرا

مِ وتابِعيكَ وأقربائِكْ

مِ وتابِعيكَ وأقربائِكْ

and upon your radiant, noble companions,

your followers and your kinsfolk,

ما ضجَّ في رُفُفِ الغُيو

ما ضجَّ في رُفُفِ الغُيو

بِ جَليلُ حزبٍ في ثَنائِكْ

بِ جَليلُ حزبٍ في ثَنائِكْ

as long as, in the tiers of the unseen realms,

a mighty company cries aloud in your praise;

وبَنى جَحاجِحَةُ القُلو

وبَنى جَحاجِحَةُ القُلو

بِ هُدى الأنامِ على بِنائِكْ

بِ هُدى الأنامِ على بِنائِكْ

and the great masters of hearts build

mankind's guidance upon your edifice;

وانْحطَّ كلُّ ذوي العُلى

وانْحطَّ كلُّ ذوي العُلى

والمجدِ عن رُتَبِ ارْتِقائِكْ

والمجدِ عن رُتَبِ ارْتِقائِكْ

and all those of eminence

and glory fall below the ranks of your ascent;

فوقَ الرَّفارِفِ ما بَنَيْ

فوقَ الرَّفارِفِ ما بَنَيْ

تَ ودونَ حِكمتِكَ السَّبائِكْ

تَ ودونَ حِكمتِكَ السَّبائِكْ

above the canopies is what you built,

and beneath your wisdom lie the ingots;

وتواضَعَتْ ساداتُ سا

وتواضَعَتْ ساداتُ سا

داتِ الوُجودِ لدى لِوائِكْ

داتِ الوُجودِ لدى لِوائِكْ

and the lords of the lords

of existence humble themselves before your banner;

وطوَى الإِلهُ خَوارِقَ ال

وطوَى الإِلهُ خَوارِقَ ال

عاداتِ طيًّا في رِدائِكْ

عاداتِ طيًّا في رِدائِكْ

and God enfolds the wonders that defy

custom, enfolding them within your mantle.
