لي قلبٌ في الحُبِّ مُضْنًى عَليلُ

لي قلبٌ في الحُبِّ مُضْنًى عَليلُ

ليسَ يُسليهِ عنكُمُ التَّعليلُ

ليسَ يُسليهِ عنكُمُ التَّعليلُ

I have a heart, worn out and ailing in love.

No consolation can distract it from you.

وهَواكُمْ جعَلْتُهُ لي ذُخْراً

وهَواكُمْ جعَلْتُهُ لي ذُخْراً

يومَ لا ينفَعُ الخليلَ الخليلُ

يومَ لا ينفَعُ الخليلَ الخليلُ

And I have made my love for you a treasure for myself,

on the day when no friend can help a friend.

يا لِناري حُزني عليكُمْ طَويلُ

يا لِناري حُزني عليكُمْ طَويلُ

يا لِسَقمي صَبري عليكُمْ جَميلُ

يا لِسَقمي صَبري عليكُمْ جَميلُ

Alas for my fire! My grief for you is long.

Alas for my sickness! My patience with you is beautiful.

إرْحَموا يا أَكابِرَ الحيِّ عَبداً

إرْحَموا يا أَكابِرَ الحيِّ عَبداً

مستَمِرًّا بُكاؤُهُ والعَويلُ

مستَمِرًّا بُكاؤُهُ والعَويلُ

Have mercy, O notables of the tribe, on a servant

whose weeping and wailing are unceasing.

يا عَنائي وجدي كَثيرٌ كَثيرٌ

يا عَنائي وجدي كَثيرٌ كَثيرٌ

واحْتِمالي شيءٌ قليلٌ قليلٌ

واحْتِمالي شيءٌ قليلٌ قليلٌ

O my suffering! My longing is great, so great,

and my endurance is but little, so little.

أتَمَنَّى المَماتَ حتَّى أَراكُمْ

أتَمَنَّى المَماتَ حتَّى أَراكُمْ

والتَّمَنِّي من بعضِهِ المُسْتَحيلُ

والتَّمَنِّي من بعضِهِ المُسْتَحيلُ

I wish for death so that I may see you,

and some wishes are impossible.

وإذا كانَ آخِرَ العُمْرِ مَوْتٌ

وإذا كانَ آخِرَ العُمْرِ مَوْتٌ

فسَواءٌ قَصيرُهُ والطَّويلُ

فسَواءٌ قَصيرُهُ والطَّويلُ

And if death is the end of life,

then a short life and a long one are alike.
