يرُجُّ القلبَ حالُ الحبِّ رجَّا

يرُجُّ القلبَ حالُ الحبِّ رجَّا

وجمْرُ الوجدِ فيه يؤُجُّ أجَّا

وجمْرُ الوجدِ فيه يؤُجُّ أجَّا

The state of love shakes the heart violently,

and the embers of longing within it blaze fiercely.

ويُبْكي العينَ منهُ الهجرُ حتَّى

ويُبْكي العينَ منهُ الهجرُ حتَّى

يمُدُّ سَحابُها السَّيَّالُ لُجَّا

يمُدُّ سَحابُها السَّيَّالُ لُجَّا

And separation from him makes the eye weep until

its streaming cloud feeds a deep sea.

متى يا عينُ تَنْتظمُ الأماني

متى يا عينُ تَنْتظمُ الأماني

كما نبْغي ونُتْحفُ بالمُرجَّى

كما نبْغي ونُتْحفُ بالمُرجَّى

When, O eye, will wishes fall into place

as we desire, and we be gifted with what we hope for,

ويَحْفلُ رَكبُ من نَهواهُ فينا

ويَحْفلُ رَكبُ من نَهواهُ فينا

يُثيرُ بأرضِنا الفَيحاءِ عَجَّا

يُثيرُ بأرضِنا الفَيحاءِ عَجَّا

and the caravan of the one we love gather in our midst,

stirring up thick dust in our spacious land,

ويوصِلُ قُرْبُهُ عَرْجاءَ عزمٍ

ويوصِلُ قُرْبُهُ عَرْجاءَ عزمٍ

لنا ويُقوِّمُ الإحسانُ عَوجا

لنا ويُقوِّمُ الإحسانُ عَوجا

and his nearness bring a limping resolve to its goal

for us, and kindness straighten what is crooked?
