Kindling the anguish of the sorrowful heart.

    Gently shaking every steadfast resolve.

Why does the camel-chanter linger at Tibrin?

Would that I knew! Yet what use are 'perhaps' and 'if only'

Against an age that begrudges me what I love?

Shall I reach Mitkin with life still to spare,

And will the sound of my longing stir the riders?

And by kissing the plains of that broad

Expanse, shall I find cool relief for my yearning and moaning?

O my masters, while time is treacherous,

Come to my aid, for resolve is of no help.

    فهَواكُمْ يا سادَةَ الحَيِّ دِيني

    And accept me, and crown me with pardon;

For love of you, O lords of the encampment, is my religion.
