لَكَ في فَضلِكَ المَحَلُّ الرَفيعُ

لَكَ في فَضلِكَ المَحَلُّ الرَفيعُ

لا يُجاريكَ في البَديعِ البَديعُ

لا يُجاريكَ في البَديعِ البَديعُ

Your excellence gives you an exalted rank.

You have the highest rank in your benevolence,

Even al-Badīʿ cannot rival you in rhetorical artistry.

None can match you in the most eloquent eloquence.

أَيُّها المُتحِفي بِنَظمٍ وَنَثرٍ

أَيُّها المُتحِفي بِنَظمٍ وَنَثرٍ

كَلَآلٍ قَد زانَها التَرصيعُ

كَلَآلٍ قَد زانَها التَرصيعُ

O you who give me gifts of verse and prose,

O you who excel in prose and verse,

Like pearls adorned by their setting.

Like adorned necklaces with jeweled embellishments.

أَنتَ في الفَضلِ قُدوَةٌ وَإِمامٌ

أَنتَ في الفَضلِ قُدوَةٌ وَإِمامٌ

فَإِذا قُلتَ قَولُكَ المَسموعُ

فَإِذا قُلتَ قَولُكَ المَسموعُ

You are a model and a leader in excellence.

You are the epitome and imam in nobility,

So when you speak, your word is heeded.

So when you speak, your words are heard.

فَأَشِر لي أَو فَاِدعُني أَو فَمُرني

فَأَشِر لي أَو فَاِدعُني أَو فَمُرني

أَنا في الكُلِّ سامِعٌ وَمُطيعُ

أَنا في الكُلِّ سامِعٌ وَمُطيعُ

So beckon to me, or summon me, or command me;

So order me, invite me, or command me,

In all things, I listen and obey.

I am in everything a listener and obedient.

يا كَثيرَ الجَميلِ مِثلُكَ مَولىً

يا كَثيرَ الجَميلِ مِثلُكَ مَولىً

يَشتَريني جَميلُهُ وَيَبيعُ

يَشتَريني جَميلُهُ وَيَبيعُ

O you of many kindnesses, one like you is a patron

O abundant in beauty, I wish one like you to be my master,

Whose kindness buys and sells me.

Whose beauty buys me and sells me.

فَاِبسُطِ العُذرَ في الجَوابِ فَإِنّي

فَاِبسُطِ العُذرَ في الجَوابِ فَإِنّي

مِثلَ ما قَد تَقولُ لا أَستَطيعُ

مِثلَ ما قَد تَقولُ لا أَستَطيعُ

So be generous in excusing my reply, for I

So make excuses in answering me, for I

Cannot match what you may say.

Cannot do as you may say.
