عَذلُrebuke المَشيبِgray hair كَفانِيَهhas sufficed me
What is it to the reproacher, and what is it to me?
What blame is there for one who has lost his youth,
The rebuke of gray hair is enough for me.
When old age's reproach is enough for me.
واحَسرَتيalas for me! ذَهَبhas gone الشَباyouth (word continues)
بُcompletes 'youth' وَماand not بَلَغتُI attained مُرادِيَهmy desire
Alas for me! Youth has gone,
Alas! My youth has passed away before I achieved my hopes,
and I have not attained my desire.
And I grew weary of passions in my prime.

فَاليَومُso today نَهريmy river ساقِيَهan irrigation channel
And I have renounced the passion of youth;
Now the course of my days are water-carriers for me,
so today my river is but an irrigation channel.
So unto you from me, O companion mine,

So away from me, O love!
You know my place, indeed.
For you know my situation.
It seems as though I sit waiting for rhymes,

تُI (verb ending) عَلىon طَريقِthe path of القافِيَهrhyme
And it is as though I have sat down
O you who reproach me! Vanishings have vanished
upon the path of rhyme.
And I have uncovered my hidden thoughts.
ياO عاذِليmy reproacher بَرَحَhas departed الخَفاconcealment (word continues)

O my reproacher, concealment has departed,
Ask me! I will answer what pleases you,
and I have lifted my veil.
Mentioning of my state.

Ask me; I will answer you with what pleases
And I have given you comfort, so take your comfort!
you to hear about my condition.
No blame is on me, neither have I blame.
وَلَقَدand indeed أَرَحتُكَI have relieved you فَاِستَرِحso rest
كُنbe لاnot عَلَيَّagainst me وَلاand not ليَهfor me
Indeed, I have relieved you, so rest;
Know that nothing is hidden from Allah,
be neither against me nor for me.
Everything hidden, He knows full well.

And know that God—
no hidden thing is concealed from Him.
