لَناwe have صَديقٌa friend وَلاand not نُسَمّيهِwe name him
لَنا صَديقٌ وَلا نُسَمّيهِ
نَعرِفُهُwe know him كُلَّناall of us وَنَدريهِand we are aware of him
نَعرِفُهُ كُلَّنا وَنَدريهِ
We have a friend, and we do not name him.
We have a friend whom we do not name
We all know him and are aware of him.
We all know him and are aware of him
كُلُّevery اِختِلافٍdiscord وَكُلُّand every مَخرَقَةٍfalsehood
كُلُّ اِختِلافٍ وَكُلُّ مَخرَقَةٍ
فيهِin him فَياso, oh لَيتَهُif only he were بِلاwithout فيهِhis mouth
فيهِ فَيا لَيتَهُ بِلا فيهِ
All discord and every falsehood
In all differences and troubles
Are in him—oh, if only he had no mouth!
He is there, if only he were flawless
