قَلَّhave become few الثُقاتُtrustworthy people فَلاso do not تَرَكنَrely إِلىon أَحَدٍanyone
قَلَّ الثُقاتُ فَلا تَرَكنَ إِلى أَحَدٍ
فَأَسعَدُfor the happiest الناسِpeople مَنthe one who لاnot يَعرِفُknows الناساpeople
فَأَسعَدُ الناسِ مَن لا يَعرِفُ الناسا
The trustworthy are few, so do not rely on anyone.
Trust few, rely on none,
For the happiest of people is one who knows no people.
The happiest of people is he who cares not for people.
لَمdid not أَلقَI find ليfor myself صاحِباًa friend فيfor the sake of اللَهِGod أَصحَبُهُI befriend him
لَم أَلقَ لي صاحِباً في اللَهِ أَصحَبُهُ
وَقَدand indeed رَأَيتُI have seen وَقَدand indeed جَرَّبتُI have tested أَجناساkinds of people
وَقَد رَأَيتُ وَقَد جَرَّبتُ أَجناسا
I have found no friend whom I might befriend for God's sake,
I found no true friend in God to befriend,
though I have seen and tested people of various kinds.
I've seen much, tried out many kinds.
