وَرَدَ الكِتابُ وَإِنَّهُ

وَرَدَ الكِتابُ وَإِنَّهُ

عِندي وَحَقِّكُمُ كَريمُ

عِندي وَحَقِّكُمُ كَريمُ

The letter has arrived, and it

The book has arrived, and it is

is precious to me, by your honor.

With me, by your right, generous

وَفَضَضتُهُ وَكَأَنَّهُ

وَفَضَضتُهُ وَكَأَنَّهُ

مِن حُسنِهِ دُرٌّ نَظيمُ

مِن حُسنِهِ دُرٌّ نَظيمُ

And I broke its seal, and it seemed

I leafed through it, as though it were

in its beauty a string of pearls.

A string of beautiful pearls, well-arranged

وَبَدَت مَعانيهِ وَقَد

وَبَدَت مَعانيهِ وَقَد

رَقَّت كَما رَقَّ النَسيمُ

رَقَّت كَما رَقَّ النَسيمُ

And its meanings appeared, having

Its meanings appeared, and they were as delicate

grown delicate as the breeze is delicate.

As a gentle breeze

أَحبابَنا إِنّي عَلى

أَحبابَنا إِنّي عَلى

حُسنِ الوَفاءِ لَكُم مُقيمُ

حُسنِ الوَفاءِ لَكُم مُقيمُ

Our dear ones, I am

My friends, I am steadfast

steadfast in keeping true faith with you.

In beautiful loyalty to you

وَحَياتِكُم وُدّي لَكُم

وَحَياتِكُم وُدّي لَكُم

هُوَ ذَلِكَ الوُدُّ القَديمُ

هُوَ ذَلِكَ الوُدُّ القَديمُ

By your lives, my love for you

Your life, my love for you

is that same love of old.

Is that old love

أَنا ذَلِكَ الصَبُّ الَّذي

أَنا ذَلِكَ الصَبُّ الَّذي

أَبَداً بِذِكرُكُمُ يَهيمُ

أَبَداً بِذِكرُكُمُ يَهيمُ

I am that lovesick lover who

I am that youth

is forever enraptured by thoughts of you,

Who is always obsessed with remembering you

يَهتَزُّ مِن طَرَبٍ لَكُم

يَهتَزُّ مِن طَرَبٍ لَكُم

وَلَرُبَّما طَرِبَ الحَكيمُ

وَلَرُبَّما طَرِبَ الحَكيمُ

and trembles with rapture for you;

Swaying with yearning for you

and indeed, even the sage sometimes feels rapture.

That even the wise man sways

فَعَلَيكُمُ مِنّي السَلا

فَعَلَيكُمُ مِنّي السَلا

مُ فَوُدُّكُم عِندي سَليمُ

مُ فَوُدُّكُم عِندي سَليمُ

So peace be upon you from me;

So from me is peace

for my affection for you remains unbroken.

My love for you is safe with me
