يا ذا النَدى وَالمَعالي

يا ذا النَدى وَالمَعالي

وَالعِشرَةَ المُستَطابَه

وَالعِشرَةَ المُستَطابَه

O you of generosity and noble qualities,

O you of benevolence and nobility

and delightful companionship!

And of most agreeable company,

وَرُبَّ رايَةِ مَجدٍ

وَرُبَّ رايَةِ مَجدٍ

قَد كُنتَ فيها عَرابَه

قَد كُنتَ فيها عَرابَه

And many a banner of glory—

Bearer of many a banner of glory,

you have been its ʿArābah.

You were its intrepid hero.

إِنّا لِبُعدِكَ عَنّا

إِنّا لِبُعدِكَ عَنّا

في وَحشَةٍ وَكَآبَه

في وَحشَةٍ وَكَآبَه

Indeed, because you are far from us, we are

Without you we languish

in loneliness and sorrow.

In gloom and melancholy,

وَقَد شَوَينا خَروفاً

وَقَد شَوَينا خَروفاً

وَتَحتَهُ جوذابَه

وَتَحتَهُ جوذابَه

And we have already roasted a lamb,

We have roasted a lamb

and beneath it is jūdhābah pudding.

With sauce underneath,

وَالجوعُ قَد نالَ مِنّا

وَالجوعُ قَد نالَ مِنّا

فَكُن سَريعَ الإِجابَه

فَكُن سَريعَ الإِجابَه

And hunger has already taken its toll on us,

Hunger has weakened us,

so be swift to answer.

So answer our call swiftly,

وَإِن تأَخَّرتَ صارَت

وَإِن تأَخَّرتَ صارَت

لَنا عَلَيكَ طُلابَه

لَنا عَلَيكَ طُلابَه

And if you delay, there will be

Lest your delay

a claim for us against you.

Make us seek a claim against you.
