O who will aid an eye grown sleepless,
O you whose eyes have lost sleep
left lonely by the one it loved?
Made lonesome by the one they love

Since it parted from its loved ones,
Since parting with their beloved
its eyelids have not met.
Their lids have not come together

How often with their tears
my eye—when she shone forth!
My eyes shone when they shone

She has gathered such beauty
our wits have been scattered.
That minds are distracted by it

Her glance left me no respite
her eye, when it gazed.
When it glanced towards me

As for my heart and my tear,
She has fettered and freed
she has bound the one and freed the other.
My love and my tears for her

Oh, the wonder of her deed!
How strange her actions are
She has made me drunk, yet given me no drink.
They intoxicate without drinking
