Those words did stir me and fill me with joy

Ah, it is a day that will be much spoken of.
A day that will surely have great tidings

So speak in hints when you pass the bān trees and the protected pasture,
So mention, when you stop by hill and plain
And beware lest you forget and mention Zaynab.
Beware forgetting, speak then of Zainab

A hint about that named one will suffice you,
A hint from the Chosen will suffice
And leave him protected, veiled in beauty.
Leave him veiled in beauty, concealed and reserved
أَشِرgive a hint ليto me بِوَصفٍwith a description واحِدٍsingle مِنof صِفاتِهِhis qualities

Give me a hint through a single one of his qualities,
Describe but one trait that marks his great name
You will be like one who gave his name, his kunya, and his epithet.
To match the titled, named and surnamed
وَزِدنِيَand give me more مِنof ذاكَthat الحَديثِmessage لَعَلَّنيperhaps I
أُصَدِّقُI believe أَمراًa matter كُنتُI was فيهِconcerning it مُكَذِّباrejecting as false
And give me more of that message; perhaps I
Add more of that talk so I may confirm
May believe something I had been denying.
Matters I once denied, being unsure
سَأَكتُبُI shall write مِمّاfrom what قَدindeed جَرىpassed فيin عِتابِناour reproaches
كِتاباًa book بِدَمعيwith my tears لِلمُحِبّينَfor lovers مُذهَباgilded
From what has passed in our reproaches, I shall write
I'll write with my tears for lovers a script
A gilded book for lovers, with my tears.
Of what transpired in our shared rebuke
عَجِبتُI marveled لَطيفٍat a phantom زارَvisited بِاللَيلِby night مَضجَعيmy bed
وَعادَand went back وَلَمand did not يَشفِheal الفُؤادَthe heart المُعَذَّباthe tormented
I marveled at a phantom that visited my bed by night,
A charming dear visited me at night
And went back without healing my tormented heart.
Then left before soothing my tortured heart
فَأَوهَمَنيso he made me suspect أَمراًa thing وَقُلتُand I said لَعَلَّهُperhaps he
رَأىsaw حالَةًa state لَمdid not يَرضَهاapprove of it فَتَجَنَّباso he kept away
So he made me suspect something, and I said: perhaps he
I thought he glimpsed a state he disfavored
Saw a state he did not like, and so kept away.
And saw me slain in gloom so turned and fled
وَماand did not صَدَّturn away عَنfrom أَمرٍa matter مُريبٍsuspicious وَإِنَّماbut rather
رَآنيhe saw me قَتيلاًslain فيin الدُجىthe darkness of night فَتَهَيَّباso he grew afraid
Yet he did not turn away from anything suspect; rather,
But no misgiving made him abandon the matter
He saw me slain in the darkness of night, and so grew afraid.
He saw me lying dead and was filled with dread
