سَقاكِmay it water you صَوبُthe downpour الحَياthe rain ياO دارُdwelling ياO دارُdwelling
فَكَمfor how many تَقَضَّتwere fulfilled لِقَلبِيَfor my heart فيكِin you أَوطارُdesires
May the pouring rain water you, O dwelling, O dwelling!
The fate of life made you drink, O house, O house
For how many of my heart’s desires were fulfilled in you!
How many turns has my heart taken in you
وَحَبَّذاand how lovely فيكِin you آثارٌtraces أُشاهِدُهاI behold them
مِنَof الحَبيبِthe beloved لَهاthey have فيin القَلبِthe heart آثارُmarks
And how lovely are the traces I behold in you,
I wish in you are traces I can see
Of the beloved, which leave their marks upon the heart.
Of the beloved, leaving traces in my heart
عَهِدتُI knew رَبعَكِyour dwelling مَأنوساًfull of company يُغازِلُنيwould woo me

I knew your dwelling full of company; I was wooed
I knew your neighborhood intimate, flirting with me
Within it by radiant suns and moons.
In it shining suns and moons
مَتىwhen تَعودُwill return لَيالٍnights فيكِin you ليfor me سَلَفَتpassed
فَهُمfor they يَقولونَsay إِنَّthat الدَهرَtime دَوّارُever turning
When will the nights I once spent in you return?
When will nights in you return to me they passed?
For they say that time is ever turning.
For they say time is ever-turning
