سَقىmay water اللَهُGod أَرضاًa land لَستُI do not أَنسىforget عُهودَهاits bygone days
وَياطولَand oh, how long شَوقيmy longing نَحوَهاtoward it وَحَنينيand my yearning
May God water a land whose bygone days I never forget.
God watered a land, I'll not forget its covenants
And oh, how enduring my longing for it and my yearning!
And my yearning for it, and my nostalgia
بِلادٌa land إِذاwhenever شارَفتُI looked out upon مِنهاfrom it نُجومَهاits stars

A land—whenever I look out from it upon its stars,
A country, when I got close to its stars
Light appears in my heart and above my brow.
The light appeared in my heart and atop my forehead
مَنازِلُabodes كانَتwere ليfor me بِهِنَّin them مَنازِلٌhomes

Abodes where I once had homes,
Its houses were homes to me
And youth was my close friend there and my companion.
And youth was my friend and companion there
تَذَكَّرتُI recalled عَهداًa time بِالمُحَصَّبِat al-Muhassab مِنof مِنىًMina
وَماand what دونَهُthis side of it مِنof أَبطَحٍAbtah وَحُجونِand Hajun
I recalled a time at Mina's al-Muhassab,
I remembered an era in Muhassab from Mina
And what lies this side of it—Abtah and Hajun;
And what lies beyond, the plains and valleys
وَأَيّامَناand our days بَينَbetween المَقامِthe Maqam وَزَمزَمِand Zamzam

And our days between the Maqam and Zamzam,
And our days between Maqam and Zamzam
And our brothers, visitors and residents.
And our brothers, visitors and locals alike
وَياand oh طيبَsweetness نادٍa gathering place فيin ذُرىheights البَيتِthe House بِالضُحىat midmorning
وَظِلٍّand shade يَقومُrises العودُthe lute فيهِin it بِحينِat a time
And how sweet a gathering place on the heights of the House at midmorning,
And the good morning call in the courtyards of the Kaaba at dawn
And shade where the lute strikes up at times,
And shade where the lute would play at times
وَقَدand already بَكَرَتcame early مِنfrom نَحوِthe direction of نُعمانَNu'man نَسمَةًa breeze

And a breeze had come early from the direction of Nu'man,
A breeze came from the side of Nu’man
Speaking of groves there and boughs.
Speaking of its vines and branches there
زَمانٌa time عَهِدتُI knew الوَقتَtime ليfor me فيهِin it واسِعاًample
كَماas شِئتُI wished مِنof جِدٍّearnestness بِهِin it وَمُجونِand revelry
A time when I knew time was ample for me,
An era when time was ample for me
As I wished, for earnest pursuits and revelry.
To do as I pleased, seriously or fun
إِذِwhen العَيشُlife نَضرٌfresh فيهِin it لِلعَينِfor the eye مَنظَرٌa vista
وَإِذand when وَجهُهُits face غَضٌّtender بِغَيرِwithout غُضونِwrinkles
When life was fresh, with a vista for the eye,
When life was verdant, a delight to behold
And when its face was tender, without wrinkles.
And its face was glowing, without frowns
