لَعَلَّperhaps اللَهَGod يَجمَعُناwill bring us together قَريباًsoon
فَنُصبِحُso we may become فيin اِلتِئامٍreunion وَاِتِّفاقِand harmony
May God bring us together soon,
Perhaps God will reunite us soon
So we may be reunited and in harmony.
So we become together in harmony and agreement
أُحَدِّثَكُمI will tell you بِأَعجَبَof the strangest ماجَرىwhat happened ليto me
وَأَصعَبَand the hardest مالَقيتُwhat I suffered مِنَfrom الفِراقِseparation
I will tell you of the strangest things that befell me,
I will tell you the most amazing thing that happened to me
And the hardest things I suffered through separation.
And the hardest thing I faced with the separation
وَأَشفَيand I quench غُلَّتيmy burning thirst مِنكُمfrom you إِلَيكُمtoward you
فَإِنَّfor indeed الكُتبَletters لاتَسَعُcannot contain اِشتِياقيmy longing
And turn to you to quench the burning thirst you cause me,
And I will relieve my longing for you among you
For letters cannot contain my longing.
For books cannot contain my yearning
خَبَّأتُI have hidden لَكُمfor you حَديثاًa tale فيin فُؤاديmy heart
لَأُتحِفَكُمto present you with a gift بِهِwith it عِندَat التَلاقيthe meeting
I have hidden a tale for you in my heart,
I have hidden a conversation for you in my heart
To offer it to you as a gift when we meet.
To gift it to you upon the reunion
وَأَعتِبُكُمand I reproach you عَلىfor ماكانَwhat occurred مِنكُمon your part
عِتاباًa reproach يَنقَضيpasses وَالوُدُّwhile affection باقيremains
And reproach you for what you have done—
And I will gently blame you for what was from you
A reproach that passes, while affection remains.
A blame that passes as affection remains
