أَلا إِنَّ عِندي عاشِقُ السُمرِ غالِطٌ

أَلا إِنَّ عِندي عاشِقُ السُمرِ غالِطٌ

وَإِنَّ المِلاحَ البيضَ أَبهى وَأَبهَجُ

وَإِنَّ المِلاحَ البيضَ أَبهى وَأَبهَجُ

Indeed, in my view, the lover of dark beauties is mistaken;

Lo, in my view, the lover of dusky women is indeed mistaken.

And fair-skinned beauties are more splendid and more delightful.

And indeed, fair-skinned beauties are more radiant and more delightful.

وَإِنّي لَأَهوى كُلِّ بَيضاءَ غادَةٍ

وَإِنّي لَأَهوى كُلِّ بَيضاءَ غادَةٍ

يُضيءُ لَها وَجهٌ وَثَغرٌ مُفَلَّجُ

يُضيءُ لَها وَجهٌ وَثَغرٌ مُفَلَّجُ

And I, indeed, adore every fair and graceful maiden

And I do indeed love every fair-skinned, graceful young woman,

Whose face and delicately spaced teeth gleam.

Whose face and mouth, with its spaced teeth, shine.

وَحَسبِيَ أَنّي أَتبَعُ الحَقَّ في الهَوى

وَحَسبِيَ أَنّي أَتبَعُ الحَقَّ في الهَوى

وَلا شَكَّ أَنَّ الحَقَّ أَبيَضُ أَبلَجُ

وَلا شَكَّ أَنَّ الحَقَّ أَبيَضُ أَبلَجُ

And it is enough for me that, in love, I follow the truth;

And it is enough for me that I follow the truth in love,

And there is no doubt that truth is white and radiant.

And there is no doubt that truth is white and radiant.
