إِذاif ماever (emphatic) نَسيتُكَI forget you مَنwhom أَذكُرُI remember
سِواكَother than you بِباليin my mind لايَخطُرُdoes not occur
If ever I forget you, whom would I remember?
When I forget you, who else comes to mind?
No one but you comes to mind.
None but you my thoughts will find.
وَيَومُand the day سُروريof my joy يَومُthe day أَراكَI see you
لِأَنّيbecause I بِوَجهِكَat your face أَستَبشِرُrejoice
And my day of joy is the day I see you,
My day of joy is when I see your face,
for I rejoice at the sight of your face.
For with your smile, I'm filled with grace.
وَإِنand if غابَis absent أُنسُكَyour companionship عَنfrom مَجلِسيmy gathering
فَماthen no لِيَfor me أُنسٌcomfort بِمَنwith whoever يَحضُرُattends
And if your company is absent from my gathering,
When you're not here, no joy fills my place,
then I find no comfort in those who attend.
What company have I when you're not present?
عَلىupon الناسِthe people حَتّىuntil أَراكَI see you السَلامُfarewell
فَماfor no ثَمَّthere بَعدَكَapart from you مَنanyone يُبصَرُis seen
Farewell to everyone until I see you,
To people I say "peace" until I see you again,
for apart from you, there is no one to behold.
For after you, there is no other vision.
وَكَمand how many لَكَfor you عِندِيَwith me مِنof مِنَّةٍa favor
لِسانِيَmy tongue عَنof شُكرِهاgiving thanks for it يَقصُرُfalls short
And how many favors you have bestowed on me—
And how many gifts you've given me,
my tongue falls short of giving thanks for them.
My tongue falls short in thanking thee.
