نَصيبي مِنهُمُ نَصبي
I see people I have been plagued with;
I see people who have burdened me
My lot from them is weariness.
My share from them is hardship

فَيَحلِفُ لي وَيَكذِبُ بي
For among them is one who treats me hypocritically,
Among them is one who pretends with me
so he swears to me and lies to me,
Swearing to me while lying about me

He has said in lies

And a strange fellow—if you speak
And one who is arrogant, if you
of him, you tell of marvels.
Talk about him, you get arrogance

And I have seen no one more foolish than
I have not seen a more foolish one

Among non-Arabs or Arabs

بِلا عَقلٍ وَلا أَدَبِ
And a fool through whom I have suffered,
And a fool whom I was miserable with
with neither sense nor manners.
Without intellect or manners

He does not stop following me
even if I flee far away,
Even if I try hard to escape

as though I had slain
As if I killed
one of his own, and so he is after me.
Someone for him, so he is after me

For some purpose I kept their company;
For something I did not accompany them for
so do not ask about the reason.
So do not ask about the reason

It speaks well of our wits that we
It improves our intellect that we
hunt the hawk with spears.
Hunt falcons with traps

So we did not attain our aim,
But we did not get what we wanted
and came to the brink of ruin.
And grieved over loss

We returned just as we had set out,
We returned like when we left
and gained nothing but weariness.
And gained nothing but fatigue
