يا رَسولَ الحَبيبِ أَهلاً وَسَهلاً

يا رَسولَ الحَبيبِ أَهلاً وَسَهلاً

بِكَ يا مُهدِيَ السُرورِ إِلَينا

بِكَ يا مُهدِيَ السُرورِ إِلَينا

O messenger of the beloved, a warm welcome

to you, O bringer of joy to us!

عَهدُكَ الآنَ بِالحَبيبِ قَريبٌ

عَهدُكَ الآنَ بِالحَبيبِ قَريبٌ

وَلَنا نَحنُ مُدَّةً ما اِلتَقَينا

وَلَنا نَحنُ مُدَّةً ما اِلتَقَينا

Your last meeting with the beloved is still recent,

while we ourselves have not met for some time.

فَأَعِد ذِكرَ مَن ذَكَرتَ وَزِدنا

فَأَعِد ذِكرَ مَن ذَكَرتَ وَزِدنا

مِن حَديثٍ أَقَرَّ قَلباً وَعَينا

مِن حَديثٍ أَقَرَّ قَلباً وَعَينا

So repeat the mention of the one you mentioned, and give us more

of talk that gladdened heart and eye.

يا لَها مِن رِسالَةٍ جِئتَ فيها

يا لَها مِن رِسالَةٍ جِئتَ فيها

وَلَنِعمَ الرَسولُ أَنتَ لَدَينا

وَلَنِعمَ الرَسولُ أَنتَ لَدَينا

What a message you have come bearing!

And what an excellent messenger you are to us!

غَيرَ أَنَّ الزَمانَ أَصلَحَكَ ال

غَيرَ أَنَّ الزَمانَ أَصلَحَكَ ال

لَهُ نَهَتنا صُروفُهُ فَاِنتَهَينا

لَهُ نَهَتنا صُروفُهُ فَاِنتَهَينا

Yet, as for time—may God prosper you—

its vicissitudes forbade us, and we desisted.

جِئتُ في حاجَةٍ فَعَزَّت مَراماً

جِئتُ في حاجَةٍ فَعَزَّت مَراماً

وَوَدِدنا قَضاءَها وَاِشتَهَينا

وَوَدِدنا قَضاءَها وَاِشتَهَينا

I came with a request, but it proved hard to attain,

and we wished and longed to fulfill it.

حاجَةٍ ما لَنا إِلَيها سَبيلٌ

حاجَةٍ ما لَنا إِلَيها سَبيلٌ

وَلَعَمري لَقَد تَعَزُّ عَلَينا

وَلَعَمري لَقَد تَعَزُّ عَلَينا

A request we have no way to fulfill,

and, by my life, it is indeed hard for us.

شَغَلَ الدَهرُ عَن لِقاءِ حَبيبٍ

شَغَلَ الدَهرُ عَن لِقاءِ حَبيبٍ

هاتِ قُل لي مَتى وَكَيفَ وَأَينا

هاتِ قُل لي مَتى وَكَيفَ وَأَينا

Time has kept us from meeting a beloved.

Come, tell me when, and how, and where.
