لاتَطَّرِحdo not cast aside خامِلan obscure one الرِجالِamong men فَقَدfor you may
لاتَطَّرِح خامِل الرِجالِ فَقَد
تَحتاجُyou need يَوماًone day إِلىto كِفايَتِهِhis ability
تَحتاجُ يَوماً إِلى كِفايَتِهِ
Do not cast aside an obscure man, for you may
one day need his ability.
فَالياكُfor the one (on a die) فيin النَردِbackgammon وَهُوَand it is مُحتَقَرٌscorned
فَالياكُ في النَردِ وَهُوَ مُحتَقَرٌ
خَيرٌbetter مِنَthan الشَيشِthe six (on a die) عِندَat the time of حاجَتِهِneed for it
خَيرٌ مِنَ الشَيشِ عِندَ حاجَتِهِ
For a one in backgammon, though scorned,
is better than a six when it is needed.
