I fell in love with her, gazelle-like as she gazed.

Her eyes are wide, and her lids bear long, thick lashes.

When they envy her beauty, they say, "She is dainty."

Indeed, they speak truly: hers are delicacy and charm.

Nor did they deny the loveliness she possesses,

Knowing that her loveliness is beyond dispute.

A marvel of beauty, with gentle ways,

And so enchanting that the eye almost drinks her in.

So neither her character—no—nor her form is coarse,

And far be it from those ways of hers to be harsh.

And what harm is it to her not to be tall,

When she has all a lover seeks?

And I am indeed enamored of every lovely woman,

And I admire the slender waist and the hips.
