وَاللَهِby God لَولاwere it not for خيفَةُfear التَثقيلِbeing a burden
زُرتُكَI would visit you فيin الضُحىthe forenoon وَفيand in الأَصيلِthe late afternoon
By God, were it not for fear of being a burden,
By God, were it not for fear of burdening you
I would visit you in the forenoon and in the late afternoon,
I would have visited you at dawn and at dusk
وَبَينَand between ذاكَthat ساعَةَthe hour of المَقيلِmidday rest
وَكُنتَand you would have قَدalready ضَجِرتَgrown weary مِنof تَطفيليmy intruding
And, in between, at the hour of midday rest;
And in between, at the hour of stillness
And you would have grown weary of my intruding.
Though you were wearied of my intrusion
لَكِنbut أَرىI consider التَخفيفَeasing the burden عَنfor خَليليmy close friend
وَلَستُand I am not فيin العِشرَةِcompanionship بِالثَقيلِburdensome
But I think it best to spare my friend,
Yet I see the need to spare my friend
And I am not burdensome in companionship.
And I am no heavy companion
