يَغيبُvanishes إِذاwhen غِبتَyou are absent عَنّيfrom me السُرورُjoy
فَلاso may … not غابَbe absent أُنسُكَyour companionship عَنfrom مَجلِسيmy gathering
Joy vanishes when you are absent from me.
So may your companionship never leave my gathering.
فَكَمfor how much نُزهَةٍdelight فيكَin you لِلناظِرينَfor those who gaze
وَكَمand how much راحَةٍcomfort فيكَin you لِلأَنفُسِfor souls
For how much delight there is in you for those who gaze,
and how much comfort in you for souls!
فَياso O غائِباًabsent one لَوif وَجَدناwe could find إِلَيto
هِhim سَبيلاًa way مَشَيناwe would walk عَلىupon الأَرؤُسِheads
So, O absent one, if we could find a way to—
him, we would walk upon our heads.
عَلىupon ذَلِكَthat الوَجهِface مِنّيfrom me السَلامُpeace
وَلاand may … not أَوحَشَleave lonely اللَهُGod مِنfrom مُؤنِسيmy companion
Upon that face be my greeting of peace,
and may God never leave me lonely without my companion.
