قَد راحَ يَكفُرُ بِالرَحمَنِ تَقليدا
And an ignorant man who claims philosophical learning
A fool pretends philosophy in knowledge,

He has gone on denying the Merciful out of imitation.
وَقالَand he said أَعرِفُI know مَعقولاًwhat is rational فَقُلتُso I said لَهُto him
وَقالَ أَعرِفُ مَعقولاً فَقُلتُ لَهُ
عَنَّيتَyou have wearied نَفسَكَyourself مَعقوّلاًhobbled وَمَعقوداand tethered
عَنَّيتَ نَفسَكَ مَعقوّلاً وَمَعقودا
He said, “I know what is rational,” so I told him,
And he said "I know the rational," so I said to him
“You have wearied yourself, hobbled and tethered.
"You suppose yourself to be reasonable and tied up."

Who are you to speak of such a thing?
"Where are you from, and how do you recall this thing?"
I see you knocking at a door barred to you.”
I see you knocking on a door closed off from you.

فَقُلتُ لَستُ سُلَيمانَ اِبنَ داوُدا
Then he said, “You do not understand my speech.”
So he said "You do not understand my words."
So I replied, “I am not Solomon, son of David.”
I said "I am not Solomon, son of David."
