مِنfrom بَعدِafter جُهدٍeffort ياO أَخيmy brother
سَيَّرتَyou sent ليto me تِلكَthat الجُزازَهthe scrap of paper
After much effort, my brother,
After your effort, my brother
You sent me that scrap of paper.
You sent me that jug
فَشَكَرتُهاso I was grateful for it مَعَdespite أَنَّهاthat it
لَمdid not تَشفِheal مِنfrom قَلبيmy heart الحَزازَهthe hurt
So I was grateful for it, although it
And I thanked it, although
Did not soothe the hurt in my heart.
It did not quench the burning of my heart
إِنif كُنتُI am عِندَكَin your eyes حَيِّناًwretched
فَلَكَthen yours are الكَرامَةُhonor وَالعَزازَهand esteem
If I am wretched in your eyes,
If I seemed ungrateful
Then yours are honor and esteem.
You have my utmost respect and regard
