ياO مولِيَbestower of النَعماءِblessings إِنّيindeed I شاكِرٌgrateful
وَالشُكرُand gratitude حَقٌّa right واجِبٌobligatory لِلمُنعِمِto the benefactor
O bestower of blessings, I am grateful.
And gratitude is a right owed to the benefactor.
فَلَئِنso if indeed تَكُنhave مَلَأَتfilled عَوارِفُهُhis favors يَديmy hand
فَلَأَملَأَنَّthen I shall surely fill بِشُكرِهاwith thanks for them أَبداًforever فَميmy mouth
So if his favors have filled my hand,
then I shall surely fill my mouth forever with thanks for them.
وَلَقَدand indeed شَكَرتُI have given thanks وَإِنَّماand yet إِحسانُهُhis kindness
مُتَقَدِّمٌprior وَالفَضلُand the credit لِلمُتَقَدِّمِto the one who came first
And I have indeed given thanks, yet his kindness
came first, and the credit belongs to the one who came first.
