Our lord the emir’s mamluks and his horses—
Our lord the emir’s mamluks and his horses
dogs and ostriches, whenever I behold them.
Are dogs and bones when I see them.

His wealth did indeed go to waste on them when he bought them;
His money was indeed wasted on them when he bought them,
nor is it strange for ill-gotten wealth to go to waste.
And it is no wonder that ill-gotten wealth should be wasted.
