مائِدَةٌa table spread مُنَوَّعَهvaried
مائِدَةٌ مُنَوَّعَه
وَقَهوَةٌand wine مُشَعشَعَهmixed with water
وَقَهوَةٌ مُشَعشَعَه
A table spread with varied fare,
A varied table
And wine mixed with water,
And scintillating coffee
وَسادَةٌand gentlemen تَراضَعواthey drank together (literally, suckled together)
وَسادَةٌ تَراضَعوا
كَأسَa cup الوِدادِof affection مُترَعَهbrimming
كَأسَ الوِدادِ مُترَعَه
And gentlemen who have drunk together
And pillows nursing
A brimming cup of affection;
The cup of affection filled
وَلاand not يَزيدونَthey exceed عَلىbeyond
وَلا يَزيدونَ عَلى
ثَلاثَةٍthree أَوor أَربَعَهfour
ثَلاثَةٍ أَو أَربَعَه
And they number no more than
No more than three or four

وَاليَومُand this day يَومٌa day لَمhas not يَزَلceased to be
وَاليَومُ يَومٌ لَم يَزَل

Of stillness and calm
A day of calm and ease.
