وَحَتّامَand until when قُلtell ليto me لاnot تَزالُyou cease كَئيباsorrowful
O my friend, why do I see you lost in thought?
My friend, why do I see you so pensive
And tell me, how long will you remain sorrowful?
Come now, tell me, why do you remain so gloomy
لَقَدindeed بانَbecame apparent ليto me أَشياءُthings مِنكَabout you تُريبُنيarouse my suspicion
وَهَيهاتَand far from possible يَخفىto remain hidden مَنone who يَكونُis مُريباarousing suspicion
Indeed, I have noticed things about you that arouse my suspicion.
Indeed some things about you trouble me
And one who arouses suspicion can hardly stay hidden.
And it's in vain that one who troubles hides
تَعالَcome فَحَدِّثنيthen tell me حَديثَكَyour story آمِناًwithout fear
وَجَدتَyou have found مَكاناًa place خالِياًsecluded وَحَبيباand a dear friend
Come, then tell me your story without fear.
Come, tell me your woes in confidence
You have found a secluded place and a dear friend.
Come, speak to me of love's pains
تَعالَcome أُطارِحكَlet me exchange with you الأَحاديثَtales فيabout الهَوىlove

Come, let me exchange tales of love with you,
So each may tell of love's share
so each may recount a share of his own love.
