قَد سَرَّني فيكَ يا مَن خابَ مَسعاهُ

قَد سَرَّني فيكَ يا مَن خابَ مَسعاهُ

سَخيفُ رَأيِكَ هَذا كانَ عُقباهُ

سَخيفُ رَأيِكَ هَذا كانَ عُقباهُ

What has delighted me about you, O you whose endeavor failed,

I was delighted by you, O one whose endeavor has failed,

Is your foolish judgment—this was its outcome.

How foolish your opinion was, such was its consequence,

قَصَدتَ مَن لا يَرى لِلقَصدِ حُرمَتُهُ

قَصَدتَ مَن لا يَرى لِلقَصدِ حُرمَتُهُ

ضَيَّعتَ قَصدَكَ فيمَن لَيسَ يَرعاهُ

ضَيَّعتَ قَصدَكَ فيمَن لَيسَ يَرعاهُ

You sought one who does not recognize the respect due to a quest;

You sought out one who sees no sanctity in purpose,

You squandered your quest on one who does not honor it.

You wasted your purpose on one who does not heed it.
