ياO أَيُّهاyou الناكِثُthe pledge-breaker فيin عَهدِهِhis pledge
يا أَيُّها الناكِثُ في عَهدِهِ
قَدindeed عَلِمَknows اللَهُGod مَنِwho الخاسِرُthe loser
قَد عَلِمَ اللَهُ مَنِ الخاسِرُ
O you who break your pledge,
O you who broke his oath,
God indeed knows who the loser is.
God knows who is the loser.
واalas أَسَفيmy sorrow اليَومَtoday عَلىover صُحبَةٍcompanionship
وا أَسَفي اليَومَ عَلى صُحبَةٍ
يَتعَبُgrows weary فيهاin it القَلبُthe heart وَالخاطِرُand the mind
يَتعَبُ فيها القَلبُ وَالخاطِرُ
Alas, I grieve today over a companionship
Alas, today I grieve over a friendship
in which the heart and mind grow weary.
That wearies the heart and thoughts.
وَاللَهِby God ماnot فيكَin you وَلاnor even خِصلَةٌa trait
وَاللَهِ ما فيكَ وَلا خِصلَةٌ
مَحمودَةٌpraiseworthy يَذكُرُهاmentions it الذاكِرُthe one who mentions
مَحمودَةٌ يَذكُرُها الذاكِرُ
By God, there is not a single trait in you
By God, there is nothing good in you,
worthy of praise for anyone to mention.
No praiseworthy quality that is remembered.
ياO أَيُّهاyou المُسرِفُthe immoderate one فيin تيهِهِhis arrogance
يا أَيُّها المُسرِفُ في تيهِهِ
وَحَقِّby the sanctity of عَينَيكَyour two eyes لِذاfor this آخِرُan end
وَحَقِّ عَينَيكَ لِذا آخِرُ
O you who go too far in your arrogance,
O you who went too far in your loss,
by the sanctity of your eyes, this has an end.
Indeed you have misled yourself.
ظَلَمتَنيyou wronged me إِذwhen لَمdid not أَجِدI find ناصِراًa defender
ظَلَمتَني إِذ لَم أَجِد ناصِراً
واalas حَسرَتيmy anguish مِنfrom أَينَwhere ليfor me ناصِرُa defender
وا حَسرَتي مِن أَينَ لي ناصِرُ
You wronged me when I found no defender.
You wronged me when I found no supporter.
Alas, my anguish! Where can I find a defender?
How I wish I had a supporter!
ماnot تَظهَرُappears القُدرَةُpower مِنfrom قادِرٍa powerful person
ما تَظهَرُ القُدرَةُ مِن قادِرٍ
إِلّاexcept إِذاwhen قابَلَهُconfronts him قادِرُa powerful person
إِلّا إِذا قابَلَهُ قادِرُ
A powerful person's power is not revealed
Power is not revealed from the powerful
unless another powerful person confronts him.
Unless faced by the powerful.
غَدَرتَyou acted treacherously بيtoward me بَعدَafter عُهودٍpledges جَرَتhad been made
غَدَرتَ بي بَعدَ عُهودٍ جَرَت
يَكفيكَis enough for you قَولُthe words of الناسِthe people ياO غادِرُtraitor
يَكفيكَ قَولُ الناسِ يا غادِرُ
You betrayed me after pledges had been made;
You betrayed me after covenants flowed between us.
it is enough for you that people say, 'You traitor!'
Your words "I am a traitor" suffice you.
فَعَلتَyou did فِعلاًa deed غَيرَnot مُستَحسَنٍcommendable
فَعَلتَ فِعلاً غَيرَ مُستَحسَنٍ
مالَكَyou have no فيهِfor it أَحَدٌanyone شاكِرُgrateful
مالَكَ فيهِ أَحَدٌ شاكِرُ
You did a deed that was not commendable;
You did an act that is not praiseworthy.
no one is grateful to you for it.
No one appreciates that, not even the thankful.
