رَحَلَdeparted الواشونَthe tale-bearers عَنّاfrom us
رَحَلَ الواشونَ عَنّا
شَكَرَmay reward اللَهُGod المَطاياthe riding beasts
شَكَرَ اللَهُ المَطايا
The tale-bearers have departed from us.
The washingtonians have departed from us
May God reward the riding beasts!
Thanks be to God for the camels
فَظَفِرناso we attained بِوِصالٍwith union
فَظَفِرنا بِوِصالٍ
غَفَلَتwas unaware عَنهُof it البَراياhumankind
غَفَلَت عَنهُ البَرايا
So we attained union,
So we were blessed with a union
Of which humankind was unaware.
While the tents were heedless of it
خَرَجَتcame to light تِلكَthose الأَحاديthe tales (first part)
خَرَجَت تِلكَ الأَحادي
ثُ(completes 'tales') الَّتيwhich كانَتhad been خَباياsecrets
ثُ الَّتي كانَت خَبايا
Those tales came to light,
Those secrets which were hidden
Which had lain hidden.
Came out now that they're bidden
وَاِستَرَحناand we found relief مِنfrom عِتابٍreproach
وَاِستَرَحنا مِن عِتابٍ
فيin الخَباياthe hiding places وَالزَواياand the corners
في الخَبايا وَالزَوايا
And we found respite from reproach
And we were relieved of the chiding
In hiding places and corners.
In the tents and the nooks residing
وَأَتَتناand came to us رُسُلُmessengers الأَحthe loved ones (first part)
وَأَتَتنا رُسُلُ الأَح
بابِ(completes 'loved ones') مِنهُمfrom them بِالهَداياwith gifts
بابِ مِنهُم بِالهَدايا
And the loved ones' messengers came to us,
And messages came from loved ones
From them, bearing gifts.
Bearing gifts while hither homing
وَعَلىand in رُغمِspite of الأَعاديthe enemies
وَعَلى رُغمِ الأَعادي
فَلَقَدso indeed تَمَّتwere completed قَضاياmatters
فَلَقَد تَمَّت قَضايا
And in spite of the enemies,
Despite what enemies were chiding
Matters were indeed brought to completion
Our affairs now concluded, aye thing!
بِوِصالٍthrough union مِنfrom حَبيبٍa beloved
بِوِصالٍ مِن حَبيبٍ
كَرُمَتwere noble مِنهُfrom him السَجاياthe character traits
كَرُمَت مِنهُ السَجايا
Through union with a beloved
With the union of a beloved one
Whose character was noble,
Whose gifts made prison staying
وَمُدامٍand wine مِنfrom رُضابٍsweet saliva
وَمُدامٍ مِن رُضابٍ
وَحَبابٍand bubbles مِنfrom ثَناياfront teeth
وَحَبابٍ مِن ثَنايا
And wine from sweet saliva,
And wine from pressed grapes
And bubbles from front teeth.
And talk from veiled shapes
كانَhappened ماwhat كانَhappened وَمِنهُand of it
كانَ ما كانَ وَمِنهُ
بَعدُstill فيin النَفسِthe soul بَقاياremnants
بَعدُ في النَفسِ بَقايا
What happened happened, and of it
What happened has happened but yet
Traces still remain in the soul.
Lingers after in the heart and head
قالواthey said كَبِرتَyou have grown older عَنِbeyond الصِباyouth
قالوا كَبِرتَ عَنِ الصِبا
وَقَطَعتَand you have passed beyond تِلكَthat الناحِيَهrealm
وَقَطَعتَ تِلكَ الناحِيَه
They said, "You have outgrown youth
They said you're too old for young days
And left that realm behind."
And have left behind those places
