أَياO مَعشَرَcompany الأَصحابِthe friends ماwhat ليwith me أَراكُمُI see you
أَيا مَعشَرَ الأَصحابِ ما لي أَراكُمُ
عَلىon مَذهَبٍa course وَاللَهِby God غَيرِnot حَميدِpraiseworthy
عَلى مَذهَبٍ وَاللَهِ غَيرِ حَميدِ
O company of friends, why do I see you
O companions, why do I see you
On a course, by God, that is not praiseworthy?
On a path, by God, not praiseworthy?
فَهَلso are أَنتُمُyou مِنof قَومِthe people لوطٍof Lot بَقِيَّةٌa remnant
فَهَل أَنتُمُ مِن قَومِ لوطٍ بَقِيَّةٌ
فَماfor not مِنكُمُamong you مِنin فِعلِهِhis conduct بِرَشيدِupright
فَما مِنكُمُ مِن فِعلِهِ بِرَشيدِ
Are you, then, a remnant of the people of Lot?
Are you remnants of Lot's people?
For none of you is upright in his conduct.
None of you is reasonable in his acts.
فَإِنso if لَمnot تَكونواyou are قَومَthe people لوطٍof Lot بِعَينِهِمtheir very selves
فَإِن لَم تَكونوا قَومَ لوطٍ بِعَينِهِم
فَماthen not قَومُthe people لوطٍof Lot مِنكُمُfrom you بِبَعيدِfar removed
فَما قَومُ لوطٍ مِنكُمُ بِبَعيدِ
If, then, you are not the very people of Lot,
If you are not Lot's people exactly,
Then the people of Lot are not far removed from you.
Still, Lot's people are not far from you.
