دُمتَmay you remain فيin أَرغَدِmost comfortable عَيشٍliving
دُمتَ في أَرغَدِ عَيشٍ
كُلَّevery يَومٍday فيin مَزيدِincrease
كُلَّ يَومٍ في مَزيدِ
May you live on in the greatest ease,
May you live in prosperity
with more each passing day.
Every day with more abundance
قَدindeed أَتاناcame to us الطَبَقُthe platter المَلthe full (word beginning)
قَد أَتانا الطَبَقُ المَل
آنُcompletion of 'full' بِالوَردِwith the roses النَضيدِneatly arranged
آنُ بِالوَردِ النَضيدِ
The platter has come to us,
The delicious food has come to us
filled with neatly arranged roses.
Now with fresh roses
غَيرَexcept أَنّيthat I لاnot أُحِبُّI love الthe (article for 'roses')
غَيرَ أَنّي لا أُحِبُّ ال
وَردَroses إِلّاexcept فيon الخُدودِthe cheeks
وَردَ إِلّا في الخُدودِ
Yet I do not love
But I do not like any rose
roses except on cheeks.
Except on the cheeks
وَأَتانيand came to me مِنكَfrom you شِعرٌpoetry
وَأَتاني مِنكَ شِعرٌ
كُلُّevery بَيتٍcouplet بِقَصيدِworth an ode
كُلُّ بَيتٍ بِقَصيدِ
And poetry from you has reached me,
And poetry has come to me from you
each couplet worth an ode.
Each verse a complete ode
كامِلُperfect الحُسنِbeauty فَماso how أَغindependent (word beginning)
كامِلُ الحُسنِ فَما أَغ
ناهُit is independent (word ending) عَنof حُسنِbeauty النَشيدِrecitation
ناهُ عَن حُسنِ النَشيدِ
Perfect in beauty—how independent it is
Perfect in beauty, not lacking
of the beauty of recitation!
The excellence of composition
فَلَكَso to you الحَمدُpraise إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle
فَلَكَ الحَمدُ إِذا ما
قُلتَyou speak ياعَبدَO Abd (servant) الحَميدِal-Hamid (the Praiseworthy)
قُلتَ ياعَبدَ الحَميدِ
So praise is yours whenever
So praise be to you whenever I say
you speak, O Abd al-Hamid.
O servant of the Praiseworthy One
إِنَّindeed حالاًa condition أَنتَyou مِنهاbecause of it
إِنَّ حالاً أَنتَ مِنها
فيin قِيامٍstanding وَقُعودِand sitting
في قِيامٍ وَقُعودِ
Indeed, as for the condition that keeps you
You are now in a state
standing and sitting,
Of rising and sitting
قارَّبَmay bring near اللَهُGod لِمَولاto … lord (word beginning)
قارَّبَ اللَهُ لِمَولا
يَmy (possessive ending) بِهاthrough it كُلَّall السُعودِgood fortunes
يَ بِها كُلَّ السُعودِ
may God bring to my lord
May God bring my master
every good fortune through it;
Close to all good fortune
وَتَمَلَّيتَand may you long enjoy مِنَof الصَحَّhealth (word beginning)
وَتَمَلَّيتَ مِنَ الصَحَّ
ةِcompletion of 'health' بِالثَوبِwith the robe الجَديدِnew
ةِ بِالثَوبِ الجَديدِ
and may you long enjoy
And may you enjoy health
the new robe of health.
