Those generous to him with lands not their own,

Those who withhold them from the weak,

By those able to seize you by force—

So today the people rose from slumber.

O people, Jerusalem is not alone in lamenting

The horror of wounds from the reckless hand.

Your wound still bleeds and gushes,

Though the deep, gaping thrust has ended.

The free man aims too high to see

    In tears relief from anguish.

For the verdict belongs to blood and the drawn weapon,

And to war—not to the mute tear.

And victory belongs to the people who do not bend

From their resolve and their fearsome onslaught.

     ما أن يزيل العار كالأجلاء

    Expel the tyrants with every keen blade;

Nothing wipes away dishonor like expulsion.

Until I see you content and at ease,

    Free despite the blue eyes;

And see the island as a lovely garden,

Its sons protected by its sons.

And Jerusalem, every free man dwelling in her precincts,

    Her quarters radiant with workers.

O people, call out to every heedless, oblivious one,

Unaware of the misery Jerusalem tastes.

The enemies instituted no freedom there

Except to paralyze a hand and shed blood.

What good is your garden, which you made flourish,

While fire surrounds the green garden?

O my oppressed people, this is a moment

In which the loyal man stands apart from the chameleon.

How is it that your band, remaining alone,

Has not feared the might of blind force?

Long live liberation! Every band is absent

Except yours on the day of struggle and exhaustion.

And tomorrow, a sacrifice for the toilers and their ranks

Will be the bearers of that black emblem.

O people, this is you—a steadfast heart—

If the day of the red revolution comes.
