Glad tidings to you! This humiliation has lifted,
With your dawn this disgrace has dispersed
Good tidings to you, for this humiliation has dispelled, and the shackle has loosened from your limb and snapped.
And the shackle loosened from your striver and snapped.
And the shackle has fallen off your pursuer and broken
You have shaken evil, leaving no corner behind for it to hide in, nor have you left a refuge.
ازلزلwas it shaken? الشرevil ماnot خلفتyou left زاويةa corner
ازلزل الشر ما خلفت زاوية

Was evil shaken? You left no corner
I shook evil wherever a corner remained
O nation, from whose chest no idol ever fell, but that it bequeathed its place to a base one who seized control.
For it to lurk in, nor left a refuge.
Where it sneaks in and not left a refuge
From everyone who repays the hand that feeds him provisions with malice, and who bites the very breast he suckled.

O nation, from whose breast no idol has toppled
O nation, no idol has withdrawn from her chest
Hark, hear the Trumpet and the dead as they rise, for today every soul shall be recompensed for what it wrought.
Without bequeathing its place to one still baser, who then ascended,
Except it bequeathed an incessant seeker to it
God is Great! You granted no tyrant respite, except that he might reap the fire he had sown.

From among those who repay the hand that feeds them food
For every harvester, a hand feeds him
A generation of angry eyes and a caravan of two generations' rage have gathered at your rendezvous.
With a shackle, and those who devour the breast they suckled.
Boiling water, and for the suckling of the breast that nursed
And there descended from it upon the oppressor and his clique a shadow that scaled the wall and fortress to reach him.

فاليوم كل سيجزى بالذي صنعا
Behold! Hear the trumpet, and the dead when they rise;
For today each will be recompensed for what they have done
Like a torrent of lava, and fire born of darkness, and death itself—if death could contain such terror.
For today each shall be repaid for what he did.
God is Greatest, how you gave respite to a tyrant
Not even the horror of Cain as he fled, pursued by the eyes of his shrouded brother wherever he turned,
اللهGod أكبرis greatest ماnot أمهلتYou granted respite طاغيةa tyrant
الله أكبر ما أمهلت طاغية
الاexcept لكيso that يحصدhe may reap النارthe fire التىthat زرعاhe sowed
الا لكي يحصد النار التى زرعا
God is greatest! You granted no tyrant respite
Except so he reaps the fire he planted
From whose glances a phantom split the earth apart, driving the spilled blood upon him until it spread wide,
Except that he might reap the fire he sowed.
A generation with angry eyes and a caravan
Is a day more filled with terror than when the howling winds of disaster surprised the tyrant, and he turned pale.

A generation of wrathful eyes, and a caravan
Of two generations' wrath gathered at your appointment
A day when every aggrieved heart was healed, and the palace was shaken until it tilted and cracked.
Of two generations' fury, met at your appointed hour.
And from it swooped down upon the oppressor and his band
And the arm of a captive reached out from where he turned, while the steel around him turned black and gleamed.

ظل تخطى اليه السور والقلعا
And from it descended upon the oppressor and his clique
A shadow that jumped over the fence and fortress
In a stance where the beggar exhaled her humiliation upon the prince who had sated himself on her hunger.
A shadow that crossed the rampart and fortresses to reach him,
Like a torrent of magma and fire of injustice
And a clique of thieves—all that they had hoarded could not repel or ward off the people's judgment.

والموت لو كان يحوي ذلك الفزعا
Like a torrent of lava, and fire out of darkness,
And death, if only it contained that horror
Through the white revolution, you brought the high and mighty low, and hastened to the head, severing it completely.
And death, if it could contain such terror.
What is the fear of Cain when he dashes so his brother pursues him
Vengeance was not quenched by the nation's executioner, even though the fire struck him down and he fell.

عينا أخيه المسجى حيثما نزعا
Never was Cain's terror, as he ran, pursued
With his buried eyes wherever he turned
So he exacted his due from the executioner's corpse, repaying in blood the tally of the victims.
By his shrouded brother's eyes wherever he turned—
The earth split open for him from their stares a ghost
This is the one who caused every bereaved mother's sorrow, the violator of victims—would that he had trembled!

From their glances a specter split the earth to emerge,
Poured upon him the spilled blood so it spread
The thief of light who extinguished it from my eyes, and who turned the sleep in my son's cradle into pain.
Driving unavenged blood upon him until it spread—
A day more terrible than the horror that suddenly
Yesterday we were captives beneath his threshold; today we give him what he gave and what he withheld.

نكبأؤه الصرصر الطاغوت فامتقعا
Ever greater than the terror whose sudden
Struck its disaster upon the little tyrant so it swelled
The revolting crowds did not cut him nor bleed him, except with the very wounds he inflicted and the cuts he made.
Howling squall struck the tyrant, and he turned pale.
A day every heart that contained it gathered
The army did not fail, save for the expectations of a clique that imagined it would follow their every desire.

The day every heart he had afflicted found relief,
And the palace shook until it leaned and cracked
For the army was naught but the fortress of its nation, the lifter of injustice whenever it befell.
And shook the palace until it leaned and split;
And from where he turned, wearing a prisoner's shackle
If a calamity befalls her, a worse one touches him, and if she calls out to him, he hears and obeys.

And from wherever he fled, a captor's arm stretched out,
The steel and glitter around him turned black
The army was but the secret of its leader, he who liberated the necks of the oppressed when he rose.
And all around him steel blackened and flashed.
In a standstill the beggar breathed his humiliation
Abd al-Karim, who through his revolution made flow water and light, like a rain-cloud flashing bright.

In a scene where her humiliation was breathed as a beggar breathes,
While the prince who fed on their hunger satiated
Did you journey by night while Baghdad slumbered in her prison, before the star of Canopus had risen?
By the prince who had eaten his fill from her hunger,
And a band of thieves, whatever they gathered
No sooner had the morning breathed, or nearly so, than he had smashed the idols and uprooted them all.

And a band of thieves—whose entire hoard
Did not prevent the people's decree or drive it back
In a revolution from which the people returned victorious, with truth flourishing and oppression struck down.
Could neither avert nor repel the people's judgment.
You have lowered its highness with the white revolution
Until every inch of Iraq blossomed in pride, and in its port today, the light of dawn has shone.

With the white revolution you brought its heights
And hastily cut off its head and severed
Low, and swiftly struck its head, which was severed.

Vengeance was not sated by the executioner of his nation,
Until the fire burned him and he collapsed
Even though fire had felled him and he lay struck down.
So it took from the corpse of the tormentor, estimating

So it exacted payment from the executioner's carcass, taking
From it the number of victims from the blood it shed
From it as many installments of blood as there were victims.

And deemed the victims lawful prey—if only he had trembled!

Which imagined it subservient to everything the clique desired.
