A dream on the horizons of joy,
A dream on the horizons of delight
drawn by the wings of birds;
Traced by the wings of birds in flight
وand بشائرglad tidings فوقabove الربىthe hills
و بشائر فوق الربى
بينamong الخمائلthe groves فيin الصدورthe hearts
بين الخمائل في الصدور
and glad tidings above the hills,
And good tidings above the hills
among the groves, within the hearts;
Amidst the groves, within hearts' thrills
وand نسائمbreezes رقصتdanced علىover
و نسائم رقصت على
زهرblossoms الجنائنthe gardens وand الغديرthe pool
زهر الجنائن و الغدير
and breezes that danced over
And breezes that danced playfully
the gardens’ blossoms and the pool;
Upon garden flowers and the stream
وand فراشةa butterfly قدhas (perfective marker) روحتbrought relief
و فراشة قد روحت
عنto (with روّحت: brought relief) زهرةthe flower الحقلthe field النضيرverdant
عن زهرة الحقل النضير
and a butterfly has brought relief
And a butterfly that gently fanned
to the flower of the verdant field.
A flower in the lush green land
تعلوrises وand تهبطdescends فيin الرياضthe gardens
تعلو و تهبط في الرياض
كأنهاas though it were نغمa melody الحبورdelight
كأنها نغم الحبور
It rises and descends in the gardens,
Rising and falling through the leas
as though it were a melody of delight.
As if it were a tune of glee
الفجرdawn يبنيbuilds للندىfor the dew
الفجر يبني للندى
وfirst part of وَكْنًا: a nest كناrest of وَكْنًا: a nest جميلاlovely فيamong الزهورthe flowers
و كنا جميلا في الزهور
Dawn builds for the dew
The dawn builds for the morning dew
a lovely nest among the flowers.
A beautiful home where flowers grew
فلنبنso let us build منfrom قبلاتناour kisses
فلنبن من قبلاتنا
للحبfor love عشاa nest فيin الثغورthe lips
للحب عشا في الثغور
So let us build from our kisses
So let us build from kisses sweet
a nest for love upon the lips.
A nest for love where lips do meet
