A vision through which gunpowder and fire defied
A specter defied gunpowder and fire
A vision challenged by gunpowder and fire,
what a tyrant wove and a despot built.
No tyrant engineered it, no despot designed it
Which no tyrant wove, nor oppressor built.

A fortress on the outstretched arm collapsed
A fortress, collapsing upon the mighty arm.

He who made the bellows, on the day of terror, a torch
from which lights pour across the horizons.
From it lights rose over horizons
From which lights pour out across the horizons.

Stop at Shirin and chant, perhaps it would speak
Stand by Shirin and call out; perhaps she will speak,
and tell you what you long for—the stones.

Of the raging, defiant horseman
Any traces of his piebald, noble steeds?

and that there should rush toward the shackles, to shatter them,
And the people rushed to the shackles to break them
And that a people rise to the shackles to smash them,
a people, and veils should part from its eye.
As veils split from their eyes
With veils torn away from their eyes.

How many a child has oppression orphaned! And over
How many orphans did injustice leave
How many children has tyranny orphaned, and marched upon
a fallen house marched oppression's vast host.
And a looted caravan traveled to the house of passion
A fallen home, a massive army of oppression.

Like Ya'rub, an oppressed man extends a hand
As if an oppressed Arab reached
Like an oppressed Arab extending a hand
to his brother, so vengeance is not wasted.
His hand to his brother, how blood will spill
To his brother, so that vengeance is not lost.

Their blood flowed upon the lash and mingled;
Their blood mixed as it spilled from the lash
Their blood flowed onto the whip and mingled;
so evildoers will never divide it through intrigue.
Evil cannot separate it with hypocrisy
No wicked men shall separate it with intrigue.

And oppression sank its claw into both breasts,
And injustice sheathed its talons in their chests
Injustice plunged its claw into both chests,
so claws joined the two wounds with blood.
Its claws gathered the two wounds with blood
So the talons united the two wounds in blood.

A path to light that guided those who walked.

The shackle brought closer two peoples, bound together,
and ideas guided the footsteps of the two peoples.
And thoughts were directed from the two peoples' steps
And from the steps of both peoples, thoughts were aligned.
