They say to me, "You do not love the Legatee."

So I said, "May dust be in the liar's mouth!"

I love the Prophet and the Prophet's family,

And especially cherish the family of Abu Talib.

And give the Companions their due loyalty,

And follow the path that duty requires.

If loyalty to all is hostility to Ali,

Then I am, as they claim, a Nasibi.

And if loyalty to the Legatee is rejectionism,

Then rejectionism shall never leave my side.

So, by God—you and your slander!

And, by God, what an astonishing wonder!

So if, in loyalty to the Legatee, you were

On the tailbone, I would be on the withers.

God sees my secret when you do not see it,

So why do you judge what is unseen?

Will you not look to the right guidance I have?

Will you not find your way to God through me?

Does one who reviles them hope for intercession?

Rather, the evil comparison belongs to its maker.

I honor the Prophet and his companions,

For a person is only with his companion.

    Mercy, mercy—what a cold craving!

And at your service—what a frustrated hope!

Ask God for whatever you hope for,

And write it on melting ice.

Yes, cursed be reviling as a creed,

And the people's habitual reviler as its adherent!

In noble deeds he has a coward's heart,

And in dubious matters, a suitor's hand.
