وصغت للدر ضداً

and fashion a rival to pearls,

and an opposite to air,

بل لو جلوت عليه

بل لو جلوت عليه

سود النوائب بيضا

سود النوائب بيضا

nay, were I to unveil before him

black misfortunes as white,

أو ادعيت الثريا

أو ادعيت الثريا

لأخمصيه حضيضا

لأخمصيه حضيضا

or claim the Pleiades

as low ground beneath the hollows of his feet,

والبحر عند لهاه

والبحر عند لهاه

يوم العطاء حنيضا

يوم العطاء حنيضا

and the sea, beside his bounties,

on the day of giving, as a mere puddle.
