O you who raise your building high, guarding against

the vicissitudes of death and its reversals—do not fret.

For death empties every lofty palace,

and death opens every locked door.

O you who bind, remember its undoing, and beware, O

lord of palaces, of unsettling death.

And build palaces as one who neither hopes

for immortality within them nor turns to them for refuge.
