أجِدَّك ما تَنَبَّه للمنايا

أجِدَّك ما تَنَبَّه للمنايا

كأنك واجد عنها مَلاذا

كأنك واجد عنها مَلاذا

Do you truly give no thought to death,

as though you could find refuge from it?

لذاك على الغنى تزداد حرصاً

لذاك على الغنى تزداد حرصاً

وفي حلبات سكرتها نَفاذا

وفي حلبات سكرتها نَفاذا

That is why you grow ever keener for wealth

and race onward through the courses of its intoxication.

هبِ الدنيا تُحقق ما ترجّي

هبِ الدنيا تُحقق ما ترجّي

من الآمال ويحك ثم ماذا

من الآمال ويحك ثم ماذا

Suppose the world grants what you hope for

of all your desires—woe to you, what then?
