  1. مرت بنا وعينها

    من سكرها منخزلهْ

    She passed us, her eye

    Drooping from her drunkenness,

  2. ذات جفون ضعفت

    كمذهب المعتزلة

    With eyelids grown weak

    Like the doctrine of the Muʿtazila,

  3. وظاهر يروعه

    وباطن لا أصل لهْ

    And an outward appearance that awes him,

    And an interior with no foundation.
