1. A day whose beauty cannot be repelled
A day more brilliant than time adorned

2. A day clad in the garb of clouds and their fixings
My friend, bejeweled and embroidered

3. A day when it seems the sun therein is
A beautiful purchase seen through the litters

4. A day whose flutes sharpened their reeds
Sharpened with the warbles of singing propagated

5. I sat in it with Abul Hussein in a session
Like spring raiment donned on its folks doffed

6. Its sitters therein are soft pearls
Agates, topazes, and most splendid jacinth

7. So I doffed in it the adornment of delights not
Doffed before that in others

8. With the effeminate artificially made as if they are
Dolls played with by playing girls constructed

9. With counterfeit feminines, and I am
Passionate for counterfeit among females infatuated

10. And glossed with their moles above the cheeks
Like scorpions that do not sting tattooed

11. Their flutes accordingly to the words of their drums
And their drums in their words embellished

12. And when they sing in their musical modes
The cup bows down and the jugs kneel

13. And the wine is duped by euphony but
It is from where you reckon it shall be duped duped

14. It invites joy and if it becomes remote it promptly answers
And intercedes on its behalf so it intercedes

15. In the shade of an orchard whose meadow is girdled
With its cool burdas and it gratifies

16. Therein are dirhams and dinars
That are constantly stamped in equal form

17. Its boons cut off the path of the glance
With subtleties beyond others severed

18. And the wonder of its fertility without my piercing
In ruling among all wonders the most wondrous created

19. And it is as if our feast of roses therein
But no it does not gather what it gathers

20. Paper made of ruby therein glued
This saturated in color and that saturated

21. And it is as if the brilliance of candied fruit in its leaves
Is the planets’ light in darkness radiating

22. Azaris love you with fresh
Moist pomegranate sprayers stuffed

23. And the eyes of its narcissi when dewed with juice
Dew upon cheeks of wallflowers dewed

24. Checkered with yellow blossoms speckled with saffron
Embroidered with sweet basil garnished

25. The birds therein have wondrous voices
This one invites, that sings, and the other elegizes

26. Al-Nu’man never possessed its like
In what he possessed nor what he was copied

27. And facing the drinking companions when they faced off
From it when the boon companion sees and hears

28. A sphere from the contraption therein are planets
From its water every hour rise

29. Diverse in voices, it lowers its voice
At times with its singing and elevates at others

30. The longing of the flute constantly reverberated therein
The roar of the lion constantly echoed

31. And blessings galore amongst us
At times overflowing and armored at others

32. Saw the attendance for its wedding so it adorned itself
The bride for her wedding adorns herself

33. O its nobility from blessings not limited
But no sea contained in nobility bounded

34. No sooner did the Gemini rise therein
But I found it vacant, and Gemini's stars roamed

35. And you see the sky as you see it, so it is in view
At times clouded, and at others serene

36. No diver cuts its lowest depth
Until you see his limbs severed

37. And it straits the breaststroker in its midst
So the swimmer in armor deviates from it

38. But it is in comparison to your munificence a tear
From an eyelid the weeping did not account

39. Who, O Ali Abu al-Hussein, can say who
O Hashimite like I say and you create

40. Words and deeds I know not which of the two
Who is this and who is that you therein faster

41. Do you see your father Muhammad emulated
Or see your grandfather Hamzah traced

42. I do not care, my ransom, about my lineage
From afflicting catastrophes expected

43. As my prolonged stay became
Harmful to me in other than you and beneficial with you

44. Remain O Abbasids what remains of pebbles
For dew hoped or rags patched

45. Are your customs in your glory your customs
And your path in it the awe-inspiring path

46. To God is Ali Abu al-Hussein’s bounty a lad
Before whom the vicissitudes of fate startled when panicked

47. Aleppo returned through him to its customs
And the Chosen One and the Enthroned settled through him

48. It became spacious for me though I had gotten used to it
For my belongings no place therein

49. I did not come to a Fārith’s assembly gathering
Except honor’s nobility altogether welcomed me

50. How many pastures with him do I have
That never tasted good when not roamed

51. Crops of countries are edibles and potables
And Fārith’s crops are bestowed bounties sowed

52. Yearning brings his Lord closer so it is as if
My yearning for Him is with a finger gestured

53. Confidently in Him whom souls confident
That when panicked to Him they will not panic

54. Settling me in his affection at such
A height it is with the star’s elevation but loftier

55. Abandoning me the contentment after
What used to gratify me will not gratify

56. And giving me hopes from other than Him of plenty what
He grants in what I do not hope

57. Nature of clouds in bounties his nature
But no, his hands from clouds more stamped

58. Arrogant from being seen arrogant
Lofty from being seen lofty

59. And crowned the crown of beauty so in his presence
Eyes from beauty sate and saturate

60. He does not befriend misers upon his riches
Or befriend the pretentiously pious

61. Beneath arrogance those who trenchantly wade
The seas wade with their four winds

62. A repository whose favor upright distressed
Zeal safeguards, in his zeal deposited

63. No shaken hand of a cultured prince
Except I fancied mountains shaken

64. So you see the brave when he saw him as if
The chest of the brave from bravery armored

65. And if he complained the straitened roadways amidst the fray
A complainer yet the widest to him more constricted

66. Name the best trustee and one who will tomorrow
Swim in the cistern of the best of prophets pledged

67. Since the glow of my odes increased in Al-Shuʿayb
I ascertained my odes are Shīʿite-inclined

68. Take them, they please loyalist and defier
So this continues lofty and that disintegrates

69. Urbanite, nomad, refined, gentrified
Arabized genealogies bifurcate

70. Neither Abu Tammam the Tayyi ever pastured it
Nor the brave ever pastured or more courageous

71. The roses on its edges donned
And oleanders on its sides don

72. And along with the manifestness of its length
Brevity to the hearing that listens exposes

73. And its utterance sounds pleasing to you but
